If anything can be said about record-breaking globetrotter Graham Hughes, it's that - throughout his travels - he's always kept his feet firmly on the ground. The 33-year-old adventurer, from Liverpool, has become the first person to visit all 201 countries in the world - without using a plane. Hughes used buses, taxis, trains and his own two feet to travel 160,000 miles in exactly 1,426 days - all on a shoestring of just $100 a week.

Which Bus line (or train or taxi) Can get you from Australia to the Americas or Europe or the Far east?

I'm not sure in this instance that's fair.

Remember, he didn't use a plane.

I was lucky enough to visit over 30 states in the 80's in a 6 month time period, and I'm sure my experience would have been lesser, should I have concentrated on only a few.

Keep smiling,

Philip

...he's always kept his feet firmly on the ground.

I don't think I would consider being on a ship having feet firmly on the ground.

He set a goal to visit all the countries as cheaply as possible. Not something I’d wish to do but hey, thats why he did it and I haven’t.

Good for him, I say.

But I am curious about his being rescued from mohammedan fundamentalists by “a Filipino ladyboy called Jenn’.

What is a “ladyboy”?

Transvestites. It’s a whole thing in the Far East - I know Thailand has built a large part of their economy on them. Sexual tourism and all that.

Here is one of the less offensive sites I found, as most of them were real porn - it’s not really that nice though:

He's got one big set of lungs crossing the bottom of the oceans.

I was curious as to whether he had traveled to South Sudan - the newest country in the world.

I clicked on the link and, voila!, there's a photo of him smiling in front of a South Sudan sign. I'm a believer.

In Southeast Asia and specifically Thailand, they do not use the term homosexual or gay. Not in their vocabulary. The term lady boy is used in general to refer a male homosexual including a transvestite.

If Jenn has breasts, then they are referred to as katoey.

Female homosexuals or lesbians are called "tom boys"

Reminds me of some great advice from my ex-wife regarding Thailand. She’s been there several times before (flight attendant) and her advice was, if you see a really good-looking woman, as in supermodel good-looking.....yeah, that’s actually a man.

LOL!
