There may only be 26 days until Christmas, but you can get your hands on a jolly bundle of “My computer is on fire and would you like a mince pie” considerably faster than that.

Here’s a rather seasonal looking fake UPS delivery notification, claiming in broken English that “Your package delivered to the nearest Postal Office. When receiving, please show a mailing receipt. Address of the nearest office you can find on our website”.

A good friend of mine had this. He was expecting a package from UPS and so he clicked on it. Took me a very long time to rid his machine of the danged thing.

I received an email from American Airlines thanking me for my ticket purchase on line with my credit card ,it had a virus ,which my anti virus deleted. The email address was a throw away one ,just for junk sites ,so beware lots of scamming out there

UPS cannot deliver to the Post Office (even if you have a PO Box).

My favorite, which I’ve mentioned on FR before, had an IRS warning, and a demand that I forward all my account numbers and my SSN to “irs@yahoo.com” or all financial accounts would be frozen.

LOL!!! I know a conservative lady that had “Progressive” auto insurance. WHAT AN IDIOT!!! I couldn’t believe that I had to explain to her that ANY NAME with the word “progressive” or “people’s” is code language that Socialists use to talk to each other.

She’s a good person and, of course, immediately dumped them. I doubt anyone on this site is feeding that beast - but in the real world, I guess, many people just don’t know.

I got one like that except it said it was from FedEx. It had an attached zip file. I scanned it with AVG and no problem was found. I looked at the zip file and saw that there was an .exe that it wanted to extract. Deleted it immediately.

“UPS cannot deliver to the Post Office (even if you have a PO Box).”

Actually there is indeed a service called “UPS Smartpost” where the UPS package is transferred to the USPS when it gets to your city and the delivery is in your mailbox. I get an occasional Amazon delivery via this method. Anyone who does might be fooled by the e-mail if they aren’t paying close attention. I myself am adequately skeptical and paranoid and I think I recall deleting such an e-mail.
