The Ford Motor Company has been forced to recall over 70,000 Ford Escapes and nearly 16,000 2013 Ford Fusions due to an issue with overheating that may cause the cars’ engines to catch on fire. The recall is only for select models that were sold in Canada and the United States. This comes after several other recalls Ford has had in the recent past.

The recall is for Fusion SEL and SE models with the 1.6 liter engine, and the Escape SEL and SE models. Other Fusions and Escapes aren’t included. This is due to drivers reporting that their engines were giving them various warnings about overheating. …

I had a car (a Taurus) “engine catch on fire” when the transaxle overheated and managed to belch fluid over the underhood contents, including the exhaust manifolds. The ensuing flames were enough to keep the mess at combustion temperature and it burnt to a cinder.

Yeah, that's easy for fFord to do, what about people who spontaneously combust, who's to recall them?

I think that comprised the recall.

If they're recalled, what will Spinal Tap do for drummers?

Good point — I stand corrected. The headline writer is the idiot.

Brittany actually did a good job when she wrote (more accurately) “due to an issue with overheating that may cause the cars’ engines to catch on fire.” Nothing about “spontaneous” in the article itself.

The new cars have more stuff,, gizmos, gadgets and distractions built-in than James Bond’s latest ride. wifey is a CR-Ver for life .. not sure if her new one will talk to but some models do. what do you say to a car with an attitude? just drive and shut-up. i reckun. you, not her. ;-]

It’s hard to explain. I think its maybe about 1 hour north of the edge of big Sur .

I’ll look it up in a bit and let you where it is exactly.

what pissed me off was at the same time ford shrunk the escape, toyota took the highlander from a smaller suv to a larger suv, and nssan has been beefing up their suvstoo.

Maybe another Ford product will fill this spot. If it’s a “truck” it would sell. Ford’s truck bread and butter is still the pickup and full size truck-van, of course.

Yeah, and that can be a curse, mixing controls for elementary things with controls for the latest optional gimcracks.

While on a drive in busy highway traffic is not the time to have to grope around for the fog lights.

Oh maybe George Noory, or Art Bell if you can find him...

Ford Fusion. It’s not just a name, it’s a warning.

“engines are supposed to combust.... when you want them to”

True, but the “combustion” is supposed to be _internal_, not external! ;)
