The Ford Motor Company has been forced to recall over 70,000 Ford Escapes and nearly 16,000 2013 Ford Fusions due to an issue with overheating that may cause the cars’ engines to catch on fire. The recall is only for select models that were sold in Canada and the United States. This comes after several other recalls Ford has had in the recent past.

The recall is for Fusion SEL and SE models with the 1.6 liter engine, and the Escape SEL and SE models. Other Fusions and Escapes aren’t included. This is due to drivers reporting that their engines were giving them various warnings about overheating. …

Figure it’s a bad sensor that QC folks never checked after development.

At least it isn’t spontaneous fusion, a pesky problem with the 2025 version of Mr. Fusions when installed in a DeLorean. “Honey, there’s a mushroom cloud over the driveway again. The car is gone.”

My company is handing out Ford Escapes exclusively to the field engineers. Oh Well.

That’s just great.

I bought fully loaded Fusion the other day and love how it handles, particulary when going throughcurbs a high speed.

I loved driving on my three race tracks here in Norther KawLeeFawnEeYah on Highwasy 17, 9 and 280.

This thing came with more bells and whistles than I can just learn. Ford called to make an appointment to train me on the thing.

I’m telling you if you need another car don’t pass this up.

Super fun to drive and the grill looks like and Aston Martin.

Hope the recall is no big deal.

Luv it and was going to Half Boon Bay and to watch the oceans waves crash against the cliffs.

Then I was going to drive to a restaurant called the Rock and have a hamburger. This place is so fun to at while the taking a Bloody Mary, Hamburger and French Fries and is over 300 feet above the ocean on a cliff, which has stairs down to the beach.

I’ll deal with recall next week.

I love the former Escapes.

I don’t like what they’ve done to the newest incarnation. They’ve neutered the thing into competing with the smaller SUVs like the Rav 4 and Honda CR-V.

It was better when it was still a truck style SUV.

I think I’ll stick with my 87 Chevy pickup with the six cylinder. It just passed 100K. I think I’m safe in not expecting the engine to burn up on me.

The recall applies to the 1.6 engine specifically. Is that what you have?

“The Rock”? Where is that? I’ve eaten from Duarte’s in Pescadero to Sam’s Chowder House in HMB, Barbara’s Fish Trap and Mezza Luna in Princeton up to La Costanera in Montara, but never heard of “The Rock.”

These and similar trucks (and trucklets) are one of the things the major automakers have done in order to clear the official “car” class of vehicles to eensy weensy things that will satisfy the draconian gummit regulations for fuel economy of “cars.” It’s not Ford only; even gummit-owned Chrysler and GM do it too.

In the meantime places like China get winked at, polluting up a dirty storm (and the globull scientists are now beginning to tell us that soot is a much worse global warmer than carbon dioxide can be).

I guess that would be like an exoskeleton!

Seriously, WHY would any engine externally burn, unless it managed to leak fuel or something else flammable.

Headlines often get locally written despite the article author, who might have suggested something more sensible if she suggested anything at all. Ms. Hillen may not be ditzing here.

I had a car (a Taurus) “engine catch on fire” when the transaxle overheated and managed to belch fluid over the underhood contents, including the exhaust manifolds. The ensuing flames were enough to keep the mess at combustion temperature and it burnt to a cinder.

Yeah, that's easy for fFord to do, what about people who spontaneously combust, who's to recall them?

Good point — I stand corrected. The headline writer is the idiot.

Brittany actually did a good job when she wrote (more accurately) “due to an issue with overheating that may cause the cars’ engines to catch on fire.” Nothing about “spontaneous” in the article itself.

The new cars have more stuff,, gizmos, gadgets and distractions built-in than James Bond’s latest ride. wifey is a CR-Ver for life .. not sure if her new one will talk to but some models do. what do you say to a car with an attitude? just drive and shut-up. i reckun. you, not her. ;-]

It’s hard to explain. I think its maybe about 1 hour north of the edge of big Sur .

I’ll look it up in a bit and let you where it is exactly.

what pissed me off was at the same time ford shrunk the escape, toyota took the highlander from a smaller suv to a larger suv, and nssan has been beefing up their suvstoo.

Maybe another Ford product will fill this spot. If it’s a “truck” it would sell. Ford’s truck bread and butter is still the pickup and full size truck-van, of course.

Yeah, and that can be a curse, mixing controls for elementary things with controls for the latest optional gimcracks.

While on a drive in busy highway traffic is not the time to have to grope around for the fog lights.
