Sheriff says she crushed drugs into his sandwich
The man deputies say was poisoned by his own wife says he still loves her, but says she's never welcomed back to their Lake Wales home.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office says on Thursday, Beth Richards secretly slid crushed up anti-depressants into a tuna fish sandwich that she made for her husband, Greg.
"I think she went over the edge maybe," he said outside of his home on Friday. "I don't know."
Authorities are calling it attempted murder.
"It shocks us that this is cold, calculated, and premeditated," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "He started eating his tuna fish sandwich and noticed it kind of had a aspirin after taste so he only ate about half of it.
"His wife texted him throughout the day and asked him, 'hey, have you ate your tuna fish sandwich?'" He said.

Since it’s no fault divorce, this guy will have to pay her a lot of alimony?
Yes, that isn't suspicious at all...
It’s just so touching that a wife would make lunch for her husband these days.
Five additional years for bad grammar.
That phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.
"Text me back when your dead, hon."
I’m just as stupid ... I still love my EX
I assume she didn’t try to kill you? I think murder attempt is higher bar than even a really bad break up. But, just because someone tries to kill you, doesn’t mean you stop loving them. But saying it publicly does risk making you sound foolish.
I think that would have been quite unexpected actually. lol
Am I missing a double entendre or something?
I would have accepted 'eaten' instead of 'ate' myself.
He was in little danger from the amount of Trazodone she could put into one sandwich. It is less toxic than Tylenol.
His excuse is that he's one of the Judds!
That doesn't sound too safe.
I don't think Tylenol causes dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure, drowsiness, affect motor skills or cause suicidal thoughts. Nor do the contraindications suggest not driving or operating machinery.
That would explain a different take on the old expression. lol
Makes me think of poor Phil Hartman. His wife shot and killed him. From what I have read and heard she was mentally unstable... a true case of insanity. She shot and killed herself right after. I feel very sad for the poor kids they left behind :-(
I don't think this was one of those cases where an insanity plea is tried in an attempt to get a guilty as sin perp off scot free....after all, she was unbalanced enough to shoot herself after the deed. I feel sorry for both of them..taken by illness IMO.
I doubt she’ll get more than probation.
if you blur your vision a bit and cover her massive forhead with your thumb....
yes... you are correct...
If she was hot, you’d be okay with her poisoning you?
did you not see the pic?
how hot are we talking here?
You tell me.
Maybe just a little.
MEMO TO SELF: After a job, don’t brag!
Katy Perry hot, at least.
the judge can factor in specifics to a case to adjust the division of property.
just because you shoot yourself after you murder a person, doesn’t mean you are insane. you are falling into that stereotype that a woman must be insane to do this kind of act because they aren’t capable of doing it as a calculated, deliberate act. like we assume all men do it for this reason.
Is infamous for unsolicited erections
Maybe she wasn’t trying to kill him afterall
The sheriff's office learned that Greg does have a life insurance policy worth 250-thousand dollars, or more if he's injured on the job. But the motive is still unclear.
That picture explains the anti depressants. Looks like she wasn’t taking enough or thbe right kind judging from that sad sack look about her.
He really should take her back....She makes these rockin’ oatmeal cookies!
This brings up one of my favorite peeves. Why is it called “tuna fish”? Isn’t “tuna” a sufficient description which identifies a type of fish? After all, we don’t refer to “bass fish” or “shark fish” or the rest. (Yes, I know that there is a “sword fish” but they are never referred to as “swords.”)
It’s not *that* big of a deal! Early in our marriage (when I was learning how to cook) I accidentally poisoned my husband dozens of times. 8-\
There was the raw chicken episode (that was not so much my fault - the oven was malfunctioning), the ‘dangerously salty soup’, all the times he ate scraps I’d set aside for the dog...
But he forgave me every time! lol!
I want to know who the heck is putting Trazadone in my food!
Well, OK, let me go back to my original post.
He was in little danger from the amount of Trazodone she could put into one sandwich.
I think that is correct. "Little danger" is not "no danger," and assuming the reported allegations are true, she definitely did endanger her husband. However, she is apparently going to be tried for attempted murder. If that was her intent, Trazodone was a terrible drug choice. It is too safe.
Trazodone has been in use since the 1960s. While it is classified as an antidepressant, many people use it as a sleep medication. There are plenty of cases of Trazodone overdoses in the medical literature, but only a few deaths reported worldwide, and long term sequelae are minimal.
I don't think Tylenol causes dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure, drowsiness, affect motor skills or cause suicidal thoughts.
No, but it has different side effects that can be life threatening. Acetaminophen overdose is the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States. Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18570942.
Acetaminophen overdose is the leading cause for calls to Poison Control Centers (>100,000/year) and accounts for more than 56,000 emergency room visits, 2,600 hospitalizations, and an estimated 458 deaths due to acute liver failure each year. Data from the U.S. Acute Liver Failure Study.
Here is the New York Times Health Guide prognosis for a Trazodone overdose:
Death can result from an overdose, but this is rare. Long-term heart and respiratory problems are also rare.
And the NYT Health Guide prognosis for an acetaminophen overdose:
I'll take a Trazodone sandwich over a Tylenol sandwich any day.
If treatment is received within 8 hours of the overdose, there is a very good chance of recovery.
However, without rapid treatment, a very large overdose of acetaminophen can lead to liver failure and death in a few days.
You don’t have to be smart to attempt murder or to be charged with attempted murder when you do.
I would also characterize passing out while on a ladder as more than a ‘little danger.’
Oh, I think she is probably guilty of attempted murder. I just think she is an incompetent killer.
That depends on the specifics. If he was using a restraint system while on the ladder, there was little danger. Since it was not reported that he fell after he "passed out," I suspect that either he was using a restraint or he did not actually pass out. But I don't know, and you might be correct. My point was that the Trazodone by itself was unlikely to do him much harm.
