By the way, Republican office holders and candidates? Don’t bother contacting me by freepmail unless you have a lot of money to spend on my consulting services. Frankly, I doubt you can afford me. Stay tuned here at Free republic, though, and maybe you can get lots of free common sense advice from thousands of great freepers.

I like the concept, assuming that discretionary spending frozen would balance the budget if it was frozen for 5 years.

This is the type of solution our side needs....it has to be easy to digest and hard to demonize. The other side will always try. Unfortunately, it seems to be working right now with too many.

This is not too different than the Penny Plan that originated with Connie Mack a couple years ago here in FL. I am still surprised that he didn’t use that in his Senate run...and also that he and Romney didn’t team up to consider something like that to win over Florida together.

Well Obama and dem senate will not agree to a mix of 100% spending cuts and 0% tax increases. The dems and MSM would have no trouble dispensing with it. Nice suggestion though but it wouldn’t pass even if pubs ran all 3 branches given all the RINOs up there.

“The Republicans can end the ludicrous “fiscal cliff”...”

Men naturally rebel against the injustice of which they are victims. Thus, when plunder is organized by law for the profit of those who make the law, all the plundered classes try somehow to enter — by peaceful or revolutionary means — into the making of laws. According to their degree of enlightenment, these plundered classes may propose one of two entirely different purposes when they attempt to attain political power: Either they may wish to stop lawful plunder, or they may wish to share in it.

Woe to the nation when this latter purpose prevails among the mass victims of lawful plunder when they, in turn, seize the power to make laws! Until that happens, the few practice lawful plunder upon the many, a common practice where the right to participate in the making of law is limited to a few persons. But then, participation in the making of law becomes universal. And then, men seek to balance their conflicting interests by universal plunder. Instead of rooting out the injustices found in society, they make these injustices general. As soon as the plundered classes gain political power, they establish a system of reprisals against other classes. They do not abolish legal plunder. (This objective would demand more enlightenment than they possess.) Instead, they emulate their evil predecessors by participating in this legal plunder, even though it is against their own interests.

It is as if it were necessary, before a reign of justice appears, for everyone to suffer a cruel retribution — some for their evilness, and some for their lack of understanding.

You are assuming that they are doing just the 2009 budget? And the Bush cuts from 2001? Well, had they not passed the stimulus bill in 2009, that might have worked. However, we are currently spending the 2009 budget PLUS the almost 900 billion stimulus that was later attached to it. So, we are racking up 1T+ in new debt EVERY year without a budget. This proposal sounds okay if you were not including the stimulus. The democrats have no wish to pass a real budget, nor do they want to cut spending. They are happy with it like it is while they complain that the republicans are obstructing everything, as usual. No, this would not end well for the republicans.

you forget one thing: the democrats WANT us to go off the cliff.

first of all they already have the blame shouldered upon the republicans for any tax hikes/benefit cuts coming up. second, there are a ton of obamacare tax hikes coming up in 2013.

so if they can blame republicans for ‘tax hikes’, the public will never know that most of those hikes were democrat taxes imposed by obamacare.

if they don’t go over the cliff, those tax hikes will become more apparent, and people will notice that they are democrat obamacare taxes.

they force the republicans to take us oiver the cliff by offerring ludicrous proposals, then when the obamacare taxes AND the cliff taxes get lumped together, the republicans get blamed and the dems come out smelling like a rose.
