Billions of years from now, when the earth has erased all traces of our stay here, hundreds of dead satellites will remain in orbit around the earth. Along with these pictures.

Billions of years from now, the Earth is going to be swallowed by an expanding sun, including all the orbiting crafts around it. Our only legacy will be the probes sent to more distant planets, or out of the solar system altogether.
Billions of years from now! I’m not sure we’ll make it through the next 4 years
Darn, I'm hope I'm not still around for that.
If you become a ghost, and get eaten by an expanding sun, will it hurt? Whats the life span on being a ghost?
At some point in the distant future, our species has learned how to travel backwards in time and is not yet recognized as being the time travelers of tomorrow. We don’t know why they would come back but possibly for the purpose of clearing the way for future time travel. How far into the future was it that the species perfected this ability? Are they coming back to earth from another part of the universe or are they still earth-based that far into the future?
Will Al Gore’s Carbon Credits be erased too?
I guess these “Geniuses” have never read that satellite orbits decay over time...and all satellites in orbit around the Earth will come crashing down...eventually.
Another thought is that aliens a lot closer to us saying, “Wow, these beings just sent us a menu, those two legged naked creatures sure looks tasty”
Low earth orbits decay. Others may not. Take the Moon for instance, it is getting further away and may someday get tossed off totally.
So 1969 was pretty much the optimum time to go. If we waited much longer.....
The solar system will pass a few hydrogen gas stations along the way. The computers may decide to re-fill the solar gas tank and use the bitroom.
My first thought too...
Or will get trapped by an distant stars orbit...eventually crashing into it....
“Glork, look. we’re saved!”
“By Granthor’s hammer..you are right, Murmoo”
“Quick...toss that gold disk in the disgrontificator’s de-atomization chamber, so we can get home.”
It is ~43" further away now than it was in 1969. We should have gone in 10,000 BC. Then we could have used the Saturn IV.
Satellites in geo-synchronous orbit are there for 100s of thousands of years.
They all spin around the earth in the same direction. One of the future threats of islam is that they could launch a load of shrapnel in geo-synchronous orbit going the wrong way which would quickly destroy every satellite in that orbit with no hope of using it ever again.
They should launch a complete copy of the ObamaCare bill and all associated regulations along with a Pelosi translation script.
Who’d think in billions of years, there would be a silver lining. It and she will be long gone.
Leftists really put their hopes into socialized medicine and global warming to kill us all off. Hopefully we can disappoint them.
There is an episode of the original Star Trek, called All Our Yesterdays, in which people who lived on a mostly cloudy world did not figure out space travel until it was too late to save themselves from their sun, about to go supernova.
However, they *had* figured out time travel, so their solution to their predicament was to send their entire population back to earlier ages of their planet, after adapting them to live in those earlier times, so they would fit in. As a plot device this was necessary, that unless their minds were modified they would die; or else they could alter their past so that they did develop space travel.
Since significant space travel is so difficult, and the distances involved so great, this impresses me as a not unreasonable solution.
When that happens it will of course be blamed on George W. Bush.
Covering the orbital swath (thousands of square miles) with enough shrapnel to have a one in a million chance of hitting a satelite would be very tough. Don't sweat this one.
Mr Atoz and the Atavachron...
Casper has feelings too
