I searched and didn't find a thread already underway, so...the Heisman will be presented within the hour. FReepers' thoughts/reactions?
I sort of like Klein too.
Is he a senior this year? If so he will not get another chance.
What does it look like.
Can I have it.
Do you think the guys on Pawn Stars will give me a reasonable deal on it?
Watching now, pulling for Johnny Football.
I don’t know but you could ask OJ if he remembers what his looked like.
I’m going with Teo. Like the idea of a strictly defensive player winning for the first time.
Yes, I think he’s a senior. I’m so glad that Baylor beat K- State (for Baylor’s sake), but I’m a little sorry that the loss may well have cost him the Heisman. I knew that he was married, but I heard him being interviewed a few minutes ago acknowledging that he and his wife never kissed until their wedding day. That is amazing. I knew I liked this kid! And as far as I know, he doesn’t have a police record, unlike a certain other finalist. Those blots on Manziel’s character are a real shame.
That old K State coach seems to be getting better the older he gets.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him win one bit! I don’t follow Notre Dame football like I do Big 12, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about Manti. Same with Klein. Very decent young men.
I really want Klein to win it, but I don’t think he will. He deseves it though!
I think Te’o should get it.
Klein is a senior.
Lol. Your know those guys on Pawn Stars will not give you a fair price for it. They never do. They will tell you that it is used goods: “See, it even has someone else’s name already on it. That’s going to make it harder for us to sell.”
Congrats to Johnny Manziel - Johnny Football!
I’m sorry, but I hate that a freshman won.
It would have been nice. Congrats to Johnny Manziel.
Here in Kerrville - we disagree with you.
TFND - Tivy Fight Never Dies!
Congrats to all the nominees. Great group of players.
Me, too. He is talented for sure, but eh.
No cool socks like Robert Griffin’s Superman numbers, either!! :)
I watched the show and am very impressed with those three young men. Congrats to Johnny Manziel - it will be fun to watch him for three more years.
Herschel Walker came in 3rd as a freshman. Wow. He was the first ever ‘freshman’ All-american. Jeeze. Times have changed.
Yeah, I agree with you: I think Klein really deserved the award, but I’m sure plenty of folks thought the same about Andrew Luck. It just didn’t work out quite right for either of them. Great guys, though. Well, hopefully Klein gets taken early in the draft.
Go, Johnny, go!
Manti Te’o just got robbed! SEC bias in play.
Everyone else drools.
Congrats to Manzell. All three nominees were deserving. If it were in my power, I would have handed it to the Army quarterback, Steelman, who finished his collegiate career as a 4-year starter, but who never beat Navy. Last minute fumble on the Navy 14 as they were driving for the win. And that’s from a Navy alum who is glad we won, but empathetic for an Army team with more guts than any FBS school.
So sorry, did the SEC pee in your cornflakes again?
Manziel is 20 years old and is older than Mark Ingram was when he won as a sophomore. Manziel is a ‘redshirt’ freshman in other words a sophomore.
On June 29, 2012, before he was chosen as Texas A&M’s starting quarterback and before his first college game, Manziel was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors — disorderly conduct, failure to identify, and possession of a fictitious driver’s license. These charges stemmed from a late-night fight in College Station, Texas.
Police reports state that Manziel was with a friend who directed a racial slur at a man on the street. The man then approached the two of them trying to get at the friend, but Manziel placed himself between the two men saying his friend didn’t mean it and he was going to take him home. The man continued pushing against Manziel to reach the other, and eventually Manziel pushed back. At this point, the man swung at Manziel who then began fighting back. Shortly afterward, the bicycle patrol officers arrived. Manziel, who at the time was 19, presented a fake Louisiana drivers license to police officers showing himself to be 21. Manziel was taken into custody and reportedly spent the night in jail.
Prior to the 2012 season during the SEC Media Days, when reporters asked Coach Sumlin about the incident with Manziel, he replied by saying,
“There’s been a lot of things he has had to do internally, first of all to get back in the team’s good graces and continue to be on the team. He’s handled those and has probably done more than people even know. And there’s something to that because there’s a respect for the position. You have to be able to lead yourself before you can lead a team, and in order to do that you have to have respect to do that. Internally, there has been some things that he has had to complete just to get back to this point and put the uniform on again and he’s continuing through that. So that’s where that is.”
Manziel continued to excel both on and off the field, and was named starting quarterback for Texas A&M only one month later. Because of Coach Sumlin’s policy of not allowing freshmen to give media interviews, Manziel was unable to speak to reporters about his arrest until the 2012 regular season was completed. When reporters asked about the incident during his first press conference which occurred on November 27th, Manziel spoke frankly about the experience:
“I’ve had to make a lot of changes in my life,” he said. “I’m really more aware of my surroundings and what goes on in my life, and I’ve surrounded myself with a great group of people. I have a great family, a great group of coaches here that really all care about my well being and me moving forward as a person...It was a critical mistake in my life, and it was something that I had to learn a lot from.”
Manziel = Manzell
WOW! Thanks for the post/thread! I didn’t watch...but congratulations to Johnny Football, all the nominees and all who play sports! Tremendous, hard-working young men and women.
So why post this ?
So why post this ?
Have you heard Tubberville left TX TECH this afternoon?
He’s going to Cincinnati. Tech suits are reportedly shocked, but are wanting to look at A&M offensive coordinater, Cliff Kingsbury, a former Tech quarterback, who coaches our newest Heismann winner.
Yeah, I remember hearing about that when it happened. I don’t think it was a major story in the sports world since Manziel was an unknown at the time, but College Station is not too terribly far from where I live, so our local news covered it. I have been aware of his excellent performance on the field this year and had nearly forgotten about his arrest last summer. Once I was reminded of that incident, I remembered the reports that he’d also been caught shoplifting when he was still in high school in Kerrville. Twice, if I’m not mistaken. Very disappointing. It is this garbage in his past that kept me from rooting for him in the Heisman race (well, that stuff and the fact that I am a Baylor and Texas fan!). Hopefully, though, he has grown up a lot since then. If nothing else, he surely knows that the sports world is now watching him and he will keep his nose clean.
Now that he won everyone in college football that plays against Johnny Manziel will be taking extra shots against him. I think he should turn pro right now before his carrier is ended by cheap shots in college football that is to be expected
carrier should say career
If A&M was still in the Big 12, he would be just another Big 12 “system quarterback.” Now that A&M is in the SEC, offensive production numbers suddenly matter.
I will have to say that Tuberville, oops! Tubberville caught me completely off guard. I had no idea he was going anywhere much less to what most would consider a lower tier program.
There is always the chance that he did not like the smell of feed lots but most likely someone at TT irritated him. I am sure that is the only reason Steve Spurrier left his alma mater at Florida.
Now I wonder if Neal Brown will go to Kentucky as OC.
No matter who wins, someone somewhere will scream, “RACISM!” Bet on it.
