It is never to smart to try to run over a uniform telling you to stop, particularly with a court order against you to even go to a Wal-Mart.

I'd heard that corporate policy at Wal-Mart was to not follow shoplifters out of the store. Of course, in this case the guard was a law enforcement officer, which changes the case somewhat. But since when do you shoot a suspected shoplifter (presumably a misdemeanor perpetrator) who wasn't threatening anyone?

Shooting the driver seems like a odd way of making the scene safer or defending himself.

It does get old having cops go into 'cop' mode while being paid by a private company. Did he magically turn into a 'cop' once the theft began? Is the city now responsible for said cops actions?

Kind of odd that an officer with 26 years experience would be involved in this kind of incident. He must have felt threatened in some way. But, yeah, life as he knew it is over. And Walmart is going to be sued big time as well.

Unless his or someone elses life was in danger, this guy did a stupid thing, sorry. Don’t get me wrong, she was wrong for stealing, but to put everyone else in the parking lot at risk for just some stolen cr*p? I hope to hear that there was some good reason for the shooting.

Yeah, there was a thread on this earlier. I still think of it as the “feel-good” story of the day. Career-criminal trash gets taken out, right in the commission of their crime. Beautiful. And a great message to any others who wish to come here to Texas and bring their festering, degenerate criminality with them.

How big a story it becomes probably depends on whether the cop was white or not. If he was white, expect the usual suspects to come and whip up emotions. If he was African-American, it will just be a local story.

It's too bad that someone died, but at least it wasn't the cop (assuming the facts as presented are reasonably accurate).
