Ignoring Planetary Peril, a Profound ‘Disconnect’ Between Science and Doha

In one of the most poignant moments of the Doha climate talks, the Philippine climate change commissioner, Naderev M. Sano, appealed to his fellow negotiators at a session deciding the contours of the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol. “Please let Doha be remembered as the place where we found the political will to turn things around,” he said as he choked back tears. Just days before, Typhoon Bopha had hit the Philippines, killing hundreds of people. The typhoon, having been both unusually forceful and out of season, was deemed — like Hurricane Sandy — to be an extreme weather event, exacerbated by climate change. You can see Mr. Sano addressing the plenary of the working group dedicated to the increasingly ineffective Kyoto agreement above and here. Despite the pleas of the Philippine commissioner and those of many others, the Doha summit was almost politics as usual. It did take 24 hours of overtime, but the Doha Climate Gateway was finally approved Saturday.

Hurricane Sandy — to be an extreme weather event, exacerbated by climate change.

There was nothing "extreme" about a level 1 hurricane, but, for the purposes of the global warming baloney, it had to be escalated to the level of "extreme", otherwise, they couldn't justify the agenda.

The planet seems in little danger form man when you look at the comic events of the past. Global warming is just a world take over attempt by the greedy.

he typhoon, having been both unusually forceful and out of season

An utterly ignorant comment. Typhoons can happen any month of the year in the Western Pacific:

And unusually forceful? Supertyphoons are hardly a rare occurrence in the WestPac. And Bopha didn't even make the list of strongest typhoons - details a simple reference to Wiki would have confirmed. The only thing unusual about Bopha was how far south it was - but it was right along the historical margins for such.

This is agit-prop, pure and simple.

“Please let Doha be remembered as the place where we found the political will to turn things around,” he said as he choked back tears.

What hubris!! The idea that man can control the climate and stop hurricanes, typhoons, etc. is ridiculous. This is pure fantasy. We should be using our resources to cope with climate change, not trying to control it.

this week to demand that rich countries show how they will fulfill their pledge of $100 billion a year in financing by 2020 to help poor countries deal with the negative effects of climate change.

Statist countries that impose socialism on its citizens cause more damage than climate change, if it is real. Every socialist hellhole should adopt freedom, natural rights, and capitalism, so that they would have the means to help themselves. And also, individuals in those countries should be allowed the freedom to make and act on their own individual rational judgments about what is best for his own individual welfare. That is the rational way to deal with climate change.

Global Warming is a religious cult.

Here's another religious message: "The earth is in planetary peril because there is a "disconnect" between daily life and the message of Jesus Christ."

I've got more evidence for my religion than they have for their's.

In related but unreported news, it has now been 2596 days since the last major hurricane (force greater than or equal to 3) has made landfall in the US.

This shatters the old record of 2231 days set 19 Oct 1906.

An increase in number and severity of hurricanes is predicted by "Global Warming". This decrease in number and severity of hurricanes is also predicted by "Global Warming".

This:

Is the only planetary peril that could wipe us ALL out and unlike Gore-bull warming we can actually do something about it!!!

Instead I guess it is more vital to fund welfare....

Tears are always brought on when a bloated pseudo-technocrat thinks of his cushy job and UN grant money evaporating.

I’d love to go to one of these conferences and set up a Kool-Aide stand.

Grape only.

Sugar or Sugar-free.
