Shoppers at an Ikea in North York were surprised to discover a small monkey wandering about the store wearing a fancy winter coat Sunday.
Bystander Bronwyn Page said she spotted the monkey outside, in the stores upper parking lot.
I was in an elevator going down and there was a crowd of people and then I saw the monkey, Page told CP24. It was wearing a coat and a diaper. It started darting all over the place. It was scared, it was screaming.
Page said the monkey was eventually cornered inside the store.
Police with 33 Division later confirmed the monkey is now in the care of animal services. They said it is illegal to keep a monkey as a pet in Toronto.
It was not clear who owns the monkey or how it came to be in the store. No one has come forward to claim it so far.
However the monkey lit up social media sites Sunday evening, with at least two separate Ikea monkey accounts springing up on Twitter. The hash tag ikeamonkey was also trending on the site in Toronto while Toronto Ikea was trending across Canada.

“it is illegal to keep a monkey as a pet in Toronto.”
Everybody’s got something to hide, ESPECIALLY me and my monkey.

Given the leftist pervs who frequent IKEA, I am betting he is someone’s spouse, who got left behind after a lovers’ spat.
