First off , I should tell you that I have a Japanese HP Touchsmart desktop computer so cannot tell you exactly what all the messages I'm getting say and my wife can't translate everything either , but basically this is what has been happening every morning for the past 3 days . The computer won't boot until my wife attempts to restart windows in the last known working configuration ( takes roughly 20 minutes ) , and when she does this the message we get says it failed with another message saying there is an error # 0x80070057 . But when we turn off the message the computer then boots and works fine all day . Just for the heck of it , yesterday , I shut down the computer for a minute , turned it back on and it booted . But when the computer is off all night it won't boot in the morning until wifey goes through the aforementioned procedure . Has anybody here experienced this problem ? Apparently it has something to do with a Windows auto update that I got on Monday ( now Wednesday ) .
- Just thought I'd beat the Linux crowd to it. =)
According to the above, it appears to be related to Windows backup.
The above link shows a couple of resolutions that might help.
Lot’s of help if you google or bing “Windows 7 0x80070057”
this should help...
Another potential solution:
Try doing a system restore to the time just before you started having problems.
The screen should show a list of any ‘new’ installs that could be affected.
After the system restore, you may need to reinstall those programs that showed up on the ‘affected’ list.
I haven’t found only one with the same symptoms I am experiencing and he was able to restore to a previous date and it solved the problem . This won’t work for me .
” Try doing a system restore to the time just before you started having problems.”
We’ve tried that , and got the message that it didn’t work with the error # . When we turn off that message the computer boots , as I mentioned in my thread .
Thanks . We found that this morning . I get it in Japanese so the wife will have to check it out tonighr . We are both computer illiterates which is why I asked for help here .
Have a man try it. Japanese computers have a little bit 男性優越主義
Same error message apparently causes several different problems . Mine is a not booting one .
Which operating system do you have?
Windows 7 Home Premium
” Have you tried booting in Safe Mode?
I Googled “Windows 7 0x80070057” and came up with dozen a different causes and fixes. Oy.
How about a repair install of Windows 7? “
No , I haven’t , or should I say my wife hasn’t . Speaking Japanese is one thing ; reading it especially when pertaining to computers is another , so she’ll have to do any fixes .
Try the Win 7 System File Checker:
If you have two hard drives in explorer one would be C: and the other probably D:. Look in the drive that is not C: and see what tools you have to reinstall Windows. If you have a separate disk run the install.
I would try to back up any data files you have before trying this, though.
