Pregnancy raises an interesting issue. If you were pregnant before, had a lapse in coverage or no coverage, and you get pregnant again, the latest one could, from a broader perspective, be considered a pre-existing condition. At $63 a pop for all the minority births now covered by Medicaid or no insurance at all, this could get real expensive.

BTW, I voted a resounding NO on the poll. The now 28.64% that are willing to ante up probably don’t even have insurance now so it’s no big deal to them.

I remember in the olden days, being asked if my husband and I intended to have children - then were told I could not be covered without a huge increase in premium.
Truth is pregnancy/delivery is expensive, I understand why the insurance companies want additional monies.

What about cancer?

It tends to recur.

Treatment is EXPENSIVE.

HELL NO! I’ve had preexisting conditions since 1958! Do I sit back on my fat ass and complain, “Oh! woes is me?!”

NO! I went to school, studied and worked hard to acquire a marketable skill, then went to work and bought my own insurance, made a living and raised three great kids!

Where is it written that, because I was successful providing for myself and family, that I’m somehow responsible for you?

I’m all in favor of the John Smith welfare system! Don’t work, can’t eat! I know, oh what about those who can’t do!? Well they need to put the “bite” on family first and me last! It amazing how motivated a truly needy person is!

The premise is idiotic. The idea that it will only be $63 dollars is absurd considering how many people will drop insurance when companies are forced to pay for pre existing conditions. It costs roughly 3800 dollars a year for me to be added to my wife’s insurance. Drop the insurance, pay the 2000 dollar fine to the IRS and I am ahead 1800 bucks a year. When I get sick, ill just go buy insurance and have my pre-existing condition covered. How many others will make that calculation and what will that do to an insurance compnany’s risk pool?

The Daily News also endorsed uber lefties Diane Feinstein, Fran Pavley and Henry Waxman and urged a “YES” vote on Prop 30, a “temporary tax hike.”
