The first findings of the most detailed study yet by two British archaeologists into the Nazca Lines enigmatic drawings created between 2,100 and 1,300 years ago in the Peruvian desert have been published in the latest issue of the journal Antiquity.
As part of a five-year investigation, Dr Nicholas Saunders of the University of Bristol's Department of Archaeology and Anthropology and Professor Clive Ruggles of the University of Leicester walked 1,500 km of desert in southern Peru, tracing the lines and geometric figures created by the Nasca people between 100 BC and AD 700.
The confusing palimpsest of desert drawings has attracted a host of theories purporting to explain them ever since they were discovered during the 1920s notably the bizarre ideas of Erich Von Daniken who supposed they were made by visiting extra-terrestrials.
Dr Saunders and Professor Ruggles combined the experience and knowledge gained by walking the lines, studying the layers of superimposed designs, photographing the associated pottery and using satellite digital mapping into the most detailed such study to date....

Hey, SC...Every time I try to use the FreepMail feature lately, I get an error message telling me that my account is too new to use that feature...even though I've been a member since 2004 and have made something like 1000 posts. Any idea what's going on?
If you get an error message with your mail, you might want to ping JimRob or an Admin Mod.
Love the article. It says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Are you logged in?
So.... where’s the “light”?
It's the aliens, man! They mess with your hair, then they get into your brain!
Good to read that my theory on the lines remains intact.
This happened on location.
‘Why do you think they made the lines?’
Childish maybe ,but it got a laugh.
I know what that is!! It’s Mother Earth’s Women Parts, I betcha!
They were for the ETs.
I loved this comment under the story
And their result rejects your idea that these things were seen from above. Today people make similar patterns in vegetation fields by using ropes.
Uhhh, you mean those people are making crop circles that arent meant to be seen from above?
Oh my...the author used BC and AD instead of the PC versions, BCE and CE.
And they voted for Obama!
Your still on probation until you have been here at least ten years.
What can I say?
The article has a link to the source article in the U.K., where you find a)you are not a subscriber and so b)only by paying the U.S. equivalent of 15 British Pounds can you download the full scholastic article (as a PDF) - where maybe there are more details.
It will likely be some time before any of the additional details are reported in “free” media content.
Some people offer idea's / Hypothesis that it's alien, and offer some proof to support their idea's / Hypothesis, they are to be thought of as idiot's???????
Well then as such a learn-ed person, just how did they make those multi-ton rocks/ stones, in Peru, that are so straight / flat, that when one puts a machinist square next to / on the surface, it's so straight / flat that "LIGHT" does not shine through in between the machinist square and the stone. this requires something along the lines (pun intended, as in Peru, & Nazca Lines) of 0.0005" inch tolerance. That's less then the thickness of a human hair. (The diameter of a human hair is considered to be 0.001 inches)
I know, it's luck. Yea and a frog has a water tight butt, as long as it does not swim backwards. RIGHT??
Not meant to flame, but at least come to the table with more than a childishness attitude.
