Psychiatry Goes Insane: Every human emotion now classified as a mental disorder...

[Full title: "Psychiatry goes insane: Every human emotion now classified as a mental disorder in new psychiatric manual DSM-5 "]

(NaturalNews) The industry of modern psychiatry has officially gone insane. Virtually every emotion experienced by a human being -- sadness, grief, anxiety, frustration, impatience, excitement -- is now being classified as a "mental disorder" demanding chemical treatment (with prescription medications, of course).

The new, upcoming DSM-5 "psychiatry bible," expected to be released in a few months, has transformed itself from a medical reference manual to a testament to the insanity of the industry itself.

"Mental disorders" named in the DSM-5 include "General Anxiety Disorder" or GAD for short. GAD can be diagnosed in a person who feels a little anxious doing something like, say, talking to a psychiatrist. Thus, the mere act of a psychiatrist engaging in the possibility of making a diagnoses causes the "symptoms" of that diagnoses to magically appear.

This is called quack science and circular reasoning, yet it's indicative of the entire industry of psychiatry which has become such a laughing stock among scientific circles that even the science skeptics are starting to turn their backs in disgust. Psychiatry is no more "scientific" than astrology or palm reading, yet its practitioners call themselves "doctors" of psychiatry in order to try to make quackery sound credible.

Just in time for the quacks to label such things as patriotism, conservatism, dislike of big government, etcetera, "mental disorders".

Somewhere, Obama smiles.

Look under “H” and see if homosexuality is listed. I’m guessing that it is not.

No need for a prescription where there's beer.

We know this story is BS because the one mental disorder that they do not list is Homosexuality.

Not one Pschychiatric prick has the nerve to call Homosexuality a mental disorder.

BTW, if you have “anxiety” from work. You can go out on disability.

More from the article:

“The DSM is now larger than ever, and it includes disorders such as “Obedience Defiance Disorder” (ODD), defined as refusing to lick boots and follow false authority. [snip]

You can also get diagnosed with “Hoarding Disorder” if you happen to stockpile food, water and ammunition, among other things. Yep, being prepared for possible natural disasters now makes you a mental patient in the eyes of modern psychiatry (and the government, too).”

The article is written by someone who doesn’t like psychiatry, and is a polemic not strongly rooted in facts.

I’ll leave it at that. As someone who’s life was saved by modern psychiatry, I’d say if you need help, ask for it. If you don’t get the right kind of help, ask someone else. Medication is blunt instrument, but when it works it’s a Godsend.

Communists like to lock up dissidents in mental institutions where they can be brainwashed, re-educated, or subjected to psychological, pharmaceutical, electrical, and physical abuse/torture.

I'd bet good money that you're right. I'm sure that pedophilia is missing from the DSM as well.

Title and article have zero credibility. Good example of journalistic “quackery” in the alternative medicine field.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder, for example, has been diagnosed for decades and is NOT diagnosed solely based on a little anxiety prior to an appointment or similar. In order to diagnose, a specific set of diagnostic criteria have to be satisfied:

Diagnostic criteria for 300.02 Generalized Anxiety Disorder
(DSM IV - TR)
(cautionary statement)

A. Excessive anxiety and worry (apprehensive expectation), occurring more days than not for at least 6 months, about a number of events or activities (such as work or school performance).

B. The person finds it difficult to control the worry.

C. The anxiety and worry are associated with three (or more) of the following six symptoms (with at least some symptoms present for more days than not for the past 6 months). Note: Only one item is required in children.

(1) restlessness or feeling keyed up or on edge
(2) being easily fatigued
(3) difficulty concentrating or mind going blank
(4) irritability
(5) muscle tension
(6) sleep disturbance (difficulty falling or staying asleep, or restless unsatisfying sleep)

D. The focus of the anxiety and worry is not confined to features of an Axis I disorder, e.g., the anxiety or worry is not about having a Panic Attack (as in Panic Disorder), being embarrassed in public (as in Social Phobia), being contaminated (as in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), being away from home or close relatives (as in Separation Anxiety Disorder), gaining weight (as in Anorexia Nervosa), having multiple physical complaints (as in Somatization Disorder), or having a serious illness (as in Hypochondriasis), and the anxiety and worry do not occur exclusively during Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.

E. The anxiety, worry, or physical symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

F. The disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., hyperthyroidism) and does not occur exclusively during a Mood Disorder, a Psychotic Disorder, or a Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

You're right. Homosexuality has now been 'normalized', and I'll bet some psychs are now leaning toward calling heterosexuality a 'disease'.

Yeah? Why should they, when the psych profession is labeling every thought and emotion a "mental disorder"?

I'm sure that is true in some cases, and is certainly true with respect to more than a few in FEMA and the rest of government, but most clinicians would not agree. In fact, I just had a conversation with a Psych ARNP about the very subject of prepping and she thought it sounded like a good thing to do.
