(NaturalNews) The industry of modern psychiatry has officially gone insane. Virtually every emotion experienced by a human being -- sadness, grief, anxiety, frustration, impatience, excitement -- is now being classified as a "mental disorder" demanding chemical treatment (with prescription medications, of course).
The new, upcoming DSM-5 "psychiatry bible," expected to be released in a few months, has transformed itself from a medical reference manual to a testament to the insanity of the industry itself.
"Mental disorders" named in the DSM-5 include "General Anxiety Disorder" or GAD for short. GAD can be diagnosed in a person who feels a little anxious doing something like, say, talking to a psychiatrist. Thus, the mere act of a psychiatrist engaging in the possibility of making a diagnoses causes the "symptoms" of that diagnoses to magically appear.
This is called quack science and circular reasoning, yet it's indicative of the entire industry of psychiatry which has become such a laughing stock among scientific circles that even the science skeptics are starting to turn their backs in disgust. Psychiatry is no more "scientific" than astrology or palm reading, yet its practitioners call themselves "doctors" of psychiatry in order to try to make quackery sound credible.

In 1973 homosexuality per se was removed from the DSM-II classification of mental disorders and replaced by the category Sexual Orientation Disturbance. This represented a compromise between the view that preferential homosexuality is invariably a mental disorder and the view that it is merely a normal sexual variant.
So, I'll have to stick up for the new DSM-V. I was very careful in diagnosing, knowing that diagnosis would follow this patient and perhaps have consequences.
This isn’t actually anything new, the guy is just whining about it. The classic concept of neurosis was normal behavior taken too far. Obsessive compulsive disorder was the classic example, there’s lines between being tidy, a neat freak, and full on OCD. It’s displayable by moving something on their desk, a tidy person can ignore it, a neat freak will fix it immediately, OCD will then have to clean the entire desk. All these stem from the same impulse, but some take it too far.
Psychiatry is a mental disorder.
It’s not hoarding disorder until it interferes with your life. Having so much food, water and ammo stockpiled that you can no longer walk through your house isn’t being prepared, it’s a problem.
At one time, NaturalNews had links to a number of Scientology front groups as well as environmental groups that promoted population control, but I haven't checked lately. Mike Adams supposedly completed Scientology training in the past and Scientologists have a known irrational animus towards psychiatry and psychology.
Psychiatry and psychology are fields of medicine with grave problems, as noted in many posts above, but never take any criticism of these fields seriously from anyone even remotely associated with Scientology.
They have this bizarre obsession with labeling everything a “mental disorder.” Which is strange, since most shrinks are crazy themselves.
I love macadamia nuts, just love them. But I'm one of the few folks who, when I eat them, break out in cold sweats, get horrible heartburn, and if I eat enough of them, feel pretty sick. So you know what I did? I stopped eating macadamia nuts.
If I hadn't, would there be a whole bunch of "resources" for me and my loved ones to "fight" Macadamiaism?
As it happens, I'm also one of the few folks who break out in handcuffs and fits of aggression when I get drunk. I've spent more than one night as a "guest" at the ol' Crowbar Hotel because of it. So you know what I did? I stopped drinking. It sure as hell wasn't easy -- but it was very, very simple. And you know what happened? When I quit drinking, all the symptoms of the "disease" alcoholism disappeared!!!! Imagine that!!!!
On a par with the "mental disorder" angle -- if alcoholism is a "disease," it's self-inflicted and self-cured. A person with a real disease, like polio or muscular dystrophy or type 1 diabetes, would LOVE IT if all he or she had to do was cease indulging a specific behavior in order to get rid of all the symptoms of their disease. But they don't have that option because their disease is for real, whereas the addict's disease is purely behavioral.
All of this is a way to remove personal responsibility for one's actions, and to invest it in some outside influence best monitored by a supposedly benevolent overseer. Blaming booze for an alcoholic's problems is like blaming the gun for a shooting. And blaming a "mental disorder" for a person who chooses to defy convention, hearkens to days when left-handed children were forced to write with their right hands.
Hoplophobia? Nope, not there.
