I wouldn't doubt that MacAfee, given its founders behavior, followed that route, especailly with the Michalangelo virus that sprung it to prominence. I would also suspect Kaspersky, simply because it is the Russian way.

I had a computer guy working for my shop in the early 90s and he wrote a virus in less than 30 minutes to show how easy it actually is.
