Nearly four in ten U.S. residents say the severity of recent natural disasters such as Superstorm Sandy is evidence the world is coming to an end, as predicted by the Bible, while more than six in ten blame it on climate change, according to a poll released on Thursday.

The survey by the Public Religion Research Institute in partnership with the Religion News Service found political and religious disagreement on what is behind severe weather, which this year has included extreme heat and drought.

Most Catholics (60 percent) and white non-evangelical Protestants (65 percent) say they believe disasters like hurricanes and floods are the result of climate change. But nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of white evangelical Protestants say they think the storms are evidence of the “end times” as predicted by the Bible. Overall, 36 percent point to end times and 63 percent to climate change. …

All this poll tells me is that 4 in 10 people in this country are poorly educated in science and/or are easily swayed by the popular media.

Both of which I was already aware.

The world may very well be in the end times....
It may come from a celestial event or a cataclysmic geological event, but more likely from the stupidity of the population, as in the Obots.

That's an extremely large percentage of mentally deranged people, but a very small percentage of Americans that have no clue what "end times" really is.

You don't think that the problem might be that the poll only had two responses?

If only given two choices to answer the question, I think 'end times' might be a better choice then 'global warming'. Global warming has no place in science.

For what it’s worth, I read many years ago that when the world was approaching the year 1,000 the calendar makers refused to make any new calendars because it would be the end of the world.

More to the point, the darned “fossil fuel” complainers will go to any end to ignore weather history and go on making money off of people’s fear.

The reign of Obumbo represents the end times, at least for the USA, now USSA.

Thanks, F15.

Funny, isn't it? The deniers are themselves a fulfillment of prophetic Scriptures.

If the weather can be blamed on “Global Warming” then why could one not blame it on something more substantial such as “End Times”?

I’m occasionally puzzled to find people who believe we’re living in the End Times, and have a 401K.

I blame the weather on the weather.

I blame our ills on totalitarians and communist infiltration of American society and government.

Whether you believe its 10,000 years or 4.5 billion years. The end is taking a long time because we’ve had weather for a long time.

No word in the piece about ass/hole in the ground correlation.

It is widely believed that there is high correlation who believe the weather/end times also can’t differentiate their ass from a hole in the ground

They probably didn’t include a choice for “The weather isn’t getting worse, you idiots”.

What is getting worse is the amount of damage caused by weather — because we have more people, and more expensive homes, and keep building more in places where bad weather can do damage.

Sandy was a category 1 hurricane. If it hit florida, it would have been just a late-season storm. Instead, it hit a place that was ill-suited for such a thing. Not that it was impossible for a cat-1 hurricane to hit New Jersy, they go by there all the time, it’s just that most of the time, we get lucky and there is some high pressure to steer it away, instead of this time, when the weather patterns steered it toward us.

The End Times for those who believe the Bible is the time just before the return of the Messiah. He rules for 1000 yrs and establishes true peace on earth as was promised on His birthday. End times being the end of this time, or the end of this age.

So, why would you need money? Especially money issued by an obsolete government.
