Brief thoughts on the shooting.

Obviously we can all recognize that these shooting are happening at what are called, "gun free zones", otherwise known as (very) soft targets. In the 90s, it was kids who were supposedly being bullied. Now it is people with so called mental disorders. There is another group that is furiously taking notes on all of this. There are people in this world, that have as their sole reason for living, having an opportunity to kill Americans. I guarantee that there are people, today, in Iran and other moslem countries that are looking very closely at what happened yesterday. They see how easy it was for one single shooter to massacre dozens of people, most of whom were children. Our children are the targets that moslem extremists want the most. I'm sure that they can just imagine that if one person can do this much, what a well trained squad of just 4 or 5 jihadists can do. I teach in an elementary school. There are several times during the year that the entire school of 800+ kids, not even counting all of the staff, are grouped together in the gym for assemblies. A gym that has 3 exits. I imagine that this is pretty standard in most schools. Imagine how easy it would be for terrorists, even a small group of only 4 or 5, to inflict carnage on an absolutely imaginable scale. There is not a gun control law in the world that would do any good in such a situation. At my school all doors are locked at all times, but they all have just a crash bar on the inside to allow exit. Kids are constantly letting in people through side doors. Not a day goes by that I don't have to escort people to the office that have come in through the side doors. There just isn't enough funding to make every school become Fort Knox. The Beslan School Massacre is exactly what jihadists want to bring to our shores. I fear that incidents like what happened yesterday will only serve to embolden those who wish to perpetrate that evil even more.

I’m not watching the media trying to help the world make the best of a bad situation, I’m seeing real people trying to deal with it as individuals but they just happen to be on TV.

It’s interesting until you’re reminded of what it’s all about. In the end, we all have to deal with it on our own.

IIRC, following the invasion of Afghanistan, there were some computer discs captured that he’d the floor plans for some US schools. Beck reported on it, but it got little traction elsewhere in the media.

Gun-free zone = clear and undefended targets.

“Gun Control” is about the CONTROL—they could care less about any injured kids.
“EVIL Control” would actually work, but we mussen’t go there.

Gun free zone = God free zone

If you want to defeat evil you will need God on your side.

Gun control is like trying to solve drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to own cars.

We get the idea, you are correct on all counts.

I'm in Michigan, Jimmy Hoffa just called for revolution, commies should be careful what they ask for.

Stricter gun control in the wake of this would be the same thing.

We have very strict gun control now, it doesn't work.

Lock down schools, hospitals, and our own homes. We are becoming prisoners. And gun control is part of the problem.. Give back our rights to protect ourselves. I set behind a locked door at home because I found evidence of some one trying to break into our house. I don't own a gun, but thought about getting one..

Taking away our rights is not going to solve the problem.

I would be real darn careful with this “mental disorder” aspect. The government of the Soviet Union put away anyone who dissented by labeling them “mentally deranged”. It could happen here, and all kinds of rights could be affected too, such as inability to vote, inability to own or possess firearms. This “mental disorder” thing also is administered by psychologists and psychiatrists who are fundamentally suspect because of their humanism and relativism and disdain for Christianity. Look out.

You make an excellent point.

911 happened after a weakness was found in our airliner cockpit security, which up until that time surrendered the aircraft to the hijacker as the policy of our flight crews, to go for a couple days to Cuba and usually nobody was hurt. Someone figured out how a suicidal hijacker could use an airliner as a huge missile.

“Gun Free Zones” are a similar weakness that can be exploited.

I suggest we look to the Israeli’s as to how they dealt with such things. I believe they armed their teachers.

It just struck me that the shooter killed his own mother who was one of the teachers. If a teacher can not spot a troubled person that she lives with there is little hope of teachers being able to stop them.
