Vanity - Has any one seen "The Hobbit"

Posted on 12/15/2012 2:39:40 PM PST by Perdogg

I was going to avoid it because I saw too many mental Hobbits (no offense to Hobbits) on election day. I was wondering if it was any good.

Next week I will see "Jack Reacher" and post a review.

Didn’t see either one but Reacher got panned for casting Cruise to play a 6’4” Marine. ..and rightfully so.

I saw the 50 second movie trailer but I could only watch 25 seconds because it looked sucky.

I have not seen it, but I definitely will in the next week. Favorite author and Peter Jackson did an incredible job with the previous films for LOTR.

Saw it today in IMAX 3D High Frame Rate. It was good, though not as good as the LOTR trilogy. The high frame rate just ended up being distracting, frankly, but the 3D was done very nicely.

Bonus: it started with a 10-min (I think) preview of the new Star Trek movie.

I’ll probably wait until I can buy the BlueRay DVD as it will be cheaper than going to the movie.

The LOTR books are better, with deeper and more meaningful truths, than the Hobbit.

It’s been very well rated at imdb.

Not Hobbits, zombies. :)

I've read all of the "Jack Reacher" books. Lee Child and Nelson DeMille are two of my favourite authors. I have no problem with Cruise playing Reacher, despite his height.

I haven't seen either movie, though.

I actually have “The Hobbit” on disc. It is the old CED format and it is animated.

It is pretty good actually and I normally would never watch a cartoon version of anything.

Many years ago my Daughter picked it out or I never would have seen it.

Some people said they were going only to check out the nine-minute opening to 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' and 'Man of Steel' at IMAX theaters.

That would work out to roughly a buck per minute...yeah, that's happening.

I saw it last night. Plenty of action with amazing luck for the Dwarf side! I read the Hobbit twice back in my youth and there is a lot of stuff here that was not in those books but which was somewhere in Lord of The Rings, (If only the appendix). I did not realize it was going to be a three part movie, so they had to draw from more than just the Hobbit to fill three movies! Overall I think the movie is better than the book itself because it tells a larger story than that of the dwarfs and the dragon. I was entertained and forgot Obama was destroying America if only for a few hours.

Am taking my kids to see it Christmas Eve. The Hobbit is a children’s story, so it’s going to be different than the LOTR.

Just saw it this afternoon, cannot recommend it. Same ole, same ole, as someone said, without the depth of LOTR.

Same ole monsters (Orcs, etc.), bad guys - Bilbo and Frodo haven’t aged a day surprisingly.

Frame rate too fast, typical 2 second shots, lots of action at times, dialog kept simple. Stunning scenery tho.

Not planing to see the others coming.....leaves you hanging at end to make you go to the next one. But hey, I’m 67, so younger ones will think differently. 4 of my kids 27 to 34 asked me to join them, and was glad to do so.

Bad thing is to get a decent seat, you have to sit through trailers for at least 15 garbage movies before the movie starts. But, that’s just the way it is today.......

We saw it today. Visually and artistically it was amazing. But I expected it to follow the book word for word. I’d have been better off going in with no expectations.

However, a really meaningful theme is working through a desire for vengeance and revenge, trying to rise above that.

I saw it yesterday.

I thought the movie was incredible!

Now if your expecting it to be the next Return of the King(The Greatest Movie of all time) it is not.

But it's not suppose to be.

I saw it in 3D. I must admit that was a mixed blessing.

I had a pretty bad head ache and at the beginning when its all sunny, it felt like I was watching it through a pair of shades.

But the 3D greatly improved when we went to Goblin Town and the Flight to Erebor was incredible!

So the Critics at the L.A. can go jump in The Long Lake!

Seems to be getting mixed reviews. Erik Kain over at Forbes gives a positive review and an explanation for Jackson’s forays into Tolkein’s appendices.

Saw it last night. It was good. It was a bit slow in some places but it stuck pretty close to the book. There was one thing I was not sure about. I am going to have to dig my copy of the book out and find out if it is in there and I just forgot about it.

The music was top notch. I will be buying the sound track.
