Landfill Harmonic Orchestra (children play instruments made from garbage FANTASTIC video!)

This is Cateura, Paraguy. These kids live on a landfill. All their instruments were made from things found in the landfill. These kids are worth the few minutes spent watching the video.

LOL!

Guess what, IMHO, the DWEM’s have NOT been replaced in the World of Classical Music. (And remember, in Mozart’s time, the piano had JUST been invented!)

Will we ever see their like again? As our instruments and production methods become more advanced, our music becomes more primitive!

I wish I had a lute. (Maybe i should make one from scratch! LOL!)

Luthiers also work on violins and guitars.

I buy guitars at yard sale and fix them up. So I am a guitar-luthier.

I actually found a Martin at a flea market for $75.00, fixed it up, and sold it for $300.00. It helps pay the rent.

I am afraid that if I tried to Luthier something from a landfill, I might end up with a diet of worms.

Two points:

Equipment-wise, the desire for old tube gear from the 40s-70s climbs by the day. A Fairchild compressor today regularly sells for 50K when thy can be found (rarely) and the recreations are about 10-20K The same for old Fender/Gibson/Roland gear.

Second, The Dead White Guys will forever rule the roost. Sure great music was made outside classical circles. It will continue to be made, but (brace for the pun) If it ain’t Baroque, don’t fix it!

Sorry. I had to ;)

Only recently have I begun to truly appreciate classical. I can’t honestly claim to be anything but a bumbling newb about it, but to even compare any of the great composers and their music to something like TuPac or Jay Z’s verbal crappings isn’t even possible.

One is music, the other is something else. Not sure what though. But it ain’t ‘great’ or even ‘good’ much less ‘music’. Yea, it has rhythm and a beat so I guess there is some relation. Then again, so does a steam locomotive.

That actually sounds like fun. Getting paid for it isn’t bad either. :-)

While I am primarily a guitar guy (had an LP, currently with a Charvel) I have been getting more and more into synths. My GAS/lust for a Jupiter 8 is becoming unbearable. Fortunately my lack of funding holds it in check.

Ebay shows prices from 7-8K. And figure on at least a couple grand more for a service/recap. Ouch. But they sound like no other. Oh to be a rich man instead of so damn charming and good looking ;)

Not a Strat fan (though they are truly great, just not my thing). Although the ‘SuperStrat’ Charvel/Jacksons with Buckers gives me the shape if not the sound ;)

Well, um,..........I didn't think you were a smarta$$ but if you say so.

It really does sound interesting. I love music but I'm not musically inclined.

I found a Phil Kubicki Strat (Fender) at a yard sale. I took it apart and sold the pieces separately, because it was just too far gone to fix up.

I did, however, Beautifully refurbish a Carlo Robelli 24 fret electric guitar, and now it plays like a dream.

My main axe is a Les Paul, and it took me 47 YEARS to save up for it. Needless to say, I won’t be putting THAT one up for sale. It will go with me to my grave!

Re: Synths, I have had them all over the years, including, ARP, Moog, Yamaha DX7, etc. My first electric piano was a Fender Rhodes.

And I lived on the second floor at the time! LOL!!

Now, all I have is a Piano, a dean Accoustic/electric, and the Less Paul.

And my combination Bass/Batleth.

Well, my satire on the dead White Guys being politically incorrect, while perfectly normal for FR, was a trifle acerbic!

47 years? Damn! Hope it was a 59 ;)

I always gravitated towards shredder 80s guitars. My Charvel is a Model 5FX Neck-through w/Floyd. I miss my LP sometimes and it was a great git, but the 5 just feels so much better to me than my old Gibson. I really see no quality difference between it and a Soloist. The Japanese made them right ;)

Carrying all that synth hardware up those stairs must have been a joy. Hope you weren’t gigging regularly with it! The ARP stuff sounds really interesting to me. Especially the Quadra/Omnis. But I’m a sucker for synth strings. And the new Voyagers would not make me haZ a sad in the Moog dept.

But for some reason, it’s the Jupiter that I want the most. Ah unrequited lust ;)

It was every weekend with the Rhodes! AND my stupid drummer was a “greenie” and only rode a moped. So guess who moved the drums too?
