In some animal shelters, if you are looking for a dog to adopt, the only dogs you will see are pit bulls and pit bull puppies.

This year, I see most homeowner insurance policies in California are written with dog bite exclusion liability. You can add protection for a fee.

True. Back in HS, one of my curriculum liberal courses was volunteer work at a pet shelter and it held true back then. I preferred to feed the boa constrictors than feed those animals.

Congress should consider “Pit Bull Control” legislation.

here in the city, pit bulls are bling to certain stereotypes, er, ethnic types that are known to not be the most responsible types. the dogs too frequently find themselves homeless which is just sad but also dangerous. I honestly like pit bulls- they’re a respectable breed. I don’t care for most pit bull owners though. most. I know there are good people that own pit bulls out there but too often, I see the stereotypes with them and I know these are the ones that end up as strays on the street eventually.

When I adopted my older dog as a puppy from a humane society in KY, he was described as half Black Lab and half Great Dane. Well, DUH, guess what—he turned out to be half Black Lab and half Pit. By then it was too late; he and I had fallen in love. He’s turned out to be the funniest, friendliest, most self-assertive and self- confident dog I have ever had. Not only that, he gets along superbly well with all the nieghborhood people and dogs. He’s had company for nearly the last two years, a Great Dane who’s now nearly two. It’s really frightful what some horrible “people” have done to the Pit breed and its reputation.

Yeah, not all pit bulls are trouble, but it’s really hard to train a lab to be viscious. It just doesn’t come natural to them.

My daughter ended up with a half pit bull half boxer. It is a very friendly dog and has never tried to bite anyone. He runs up, takes my hand in his mouth but will not bite.

Now, a cat, coon, possum has no chance in his back yard. They are toast.

She keeps him in a chain link back yard topped with electric fence - just in case.

It’s not the dog but the owner. Buddy of mine raised pit bulls and they were nothing but a couple of big (BIG) puppy dogs. I never heard them bark or growl at anything or anyone.

Very calm and quite dogs.

Odd, who would have thought that pit bulls; bred to fight in rings for entertainment, might possibly be violent?

Btw, if you ever need to get a pit to let go and don’t have a gun, you can pick it straight up by the tail. Trust me it works.

One other curious thing about my Pitador is how he’s adopted the Dane. The now deceased dog who preceded the Dane was a wonderful, beautiful soul who’d been horribly abused. The one thing he couldn’t/wouldn’t do was play with other dogs, which caused the Pitador great frustation because the Pitador is a play machine. All that changed with the Dane, who’s as playful as the Pitador. Anyway, the Pitador decided to take over the Dane and has become the Dane’s virtual father, to the point where the Dane won’t do anything without the Pitador’s permission. Funniest of all, the Pitador loves to groom the Dane, as though he were the Dane’s mother.

Home owner insurance policies all over the country recognize "aggressive dogs" as a factor in coverage. They will cost you.
