Your wife is welcome to do all work with clay, murals and designing fashion she wants.

Just if she wants to be in charge of a class room, she should be able to be responsible for the students’ safety. That takes training, and equipment, as we have seen.

Automatic weapons are easier to design than semi-automatic weapons.

The automatic weapon need only withdraw the empty cartridge, and insert a new one. The firing pin can be fixed, as in the M-3 or M-3A1 submachine gun: just a bump on the bolt, so primer is crushed, and the round fires as the bolt closes.

The semiautomatic weapon has to perform the above, yet not fire. A mechanism that prevents the round from being fired when inserted into the chamber can be disabled or defeated. A semi-automatic M-1 Garand can be made to fire fully automatic with a bit of string, with no changes to the mechanicals. Any semiautomatic weapon can be made into a fully automatic weapon by damaging the function that prevents firing.

Of course that makes it harder to control: 20 rounds has 20 times as much recoil as 1 round. Given a choice I would rather have someone fire a fixed number of rounds at me on fully automatic, rather than semiautomatic. After the first one or two the birds might worry, but I wouldn’t.

Visit Tamara Keel’s blog at “View From the Porch”.

Or perhaps get a new class of grown up women with which to associate.

When a woman has a gun, it changes her outlook. My second wife was concerned about her ex stopping by (3 time loser) until I got her some range time to go with the 20 gauge and the 9mm “LadySmith”.

After that she was more concerned about how to clean up the mess if it occured (Bleach was my recommendation). The scumball headed for the state border about 5 minutes after he found out she was armed.

This logic breaks down quickly. Some people especially those drawn to teaching or ministering the sick don’t have it in them to shoot and kill. ...and that’s not what we want them to do. They have their hands full already. Just like we don’t want woman in combat. And who is going to pay for all these firearms and training ?

My father is in an old folks home run by the tender mercies of elderly nuns and Pilipino nurses. What about them? You want them strapping on glocks...taking them to the range every week for some drop and rolls? That’s why tellers That’s in banks aren’t armed. You hire a security guard.

Who paid for the training for them to be teachers? Most teachers union contracts have a ‘continuing education’ requirement.

I have more faith in the teachers than you do. I would recommend the experience of Israel, where people have a severe threat.
