Newtown CT and the low information voter
12/21/12 | Vanity

Posted on 12/20/2012 11:35:23 AM PST by txroadhawg

Thought I would bounce this idea of the many scholars here on FR.

One of the possible outcomes of the Newton massacre should be Mental health restrictions for gun purchases. Although this is a current restriction I think the definition of Mental Health sickness will be further defined and reported to restrict more people from owning firearms.

However, these same people are allowed and encouraged to vote. If you're not competent enough to own a firearm as determined by the required federal background check, should you be allowed to make decisions that affect billions of people and trillions of dollars?

This stipulation would require voter ID laws as a concession to new gun control laws and a NCIS background check for voter registration. It would act as a default IQ test to remove the low information voter.

Let me add that I am very familiar with mental health issues. My ex wife spent many months institutionalized during the 20 years of our marriage, and I never owned a firearm knowing that she might have accessed them. I now own several and have taught my current wife and our children how to safely handle them. Let the flaming begin...

I agree, and because the left controls Big Psychiatry, peaceful TEA Party members will be obviously crazy while violent Occupiers will paragons of empathy defending the oppressed minorities from the racist, sexist, homophobic American society.

In most states if you have been ruled mentally incompetent by a court, you can’t vote.

Yes, Virginia, there should be more control of nutcases. Including the majority segment of the “homeless”. That is basic, in my view. Compassionate people should want to make sure the mentals either get help or go to some place with compulsory treatment and confinement if necessary.

Welcome.

Of all the medical professions, psychiatry is probably the most inexact of them all.

If we allow anyone who asks for a CCW permit to get one, eventually the problem of crazies packing heat will solve itself.

Then, it should surprise no one that public school health program instructors employ a form of psychoanalysis on our schoolchildren in order to make them more compliant to indoctrination.

In other words, untrained individuals are using "inexact" psychiatric techniques, without a license to do so.

And, with no accountability, and essentially no paper trail.

So, when a kid goes nuts and shoots up a bunch of students, no one looks at the way they have been training the children.

Somehow it is a complete surprise that an Adam Lanza would go off the deep end.

I’m starting to wonder if Heinlein wasn’t onto something in Starthip Troopers when the population was separated into citizens and non-citizens.

Perhaps citizenship shouldn’t be automatically granted to just anyone by default, but should have to be earned, even if that’s just by demonstrating a basic level of competence and understanding of our history and system of government before being able to vote.

Even with that minimal requirement, if only citizens could be representatives, half of Congress wouldn’t qualify. I’m not sure that would be a bad thing.

Mental health restrictions for gun purchases is the law in Colorado and MANY other states and should be in ALL states.

Prior violent convictions and/or arrests is also the law in most states and should be in ALL states.

THAT is just about the only reasons I know to deny an American citizen the right to purchase and own weapons.

--- with one possible other exception ---

If someone is Sooooooo ugly that it would help improve the gene pool to get rid of that particular gene or set of genes from the human gene pool, by leaving them incapable of protecting themselves from others. (a little humor there).....

Stop right there.

Would not have helped, dude. He STOLE the guns from his mom, remember?

We need FEWER restrictions, not more. Criminals AREN'T GOING TO OBEY restrictions. When will we get this through our collective heads?

Pretty much the entire Soviet psychiatric hospital system was used to control anti communist dissidents. China uses the entire medical system.

The fact that the gun was stolen is overlooked.

Politicians are trying to stampede an emotionally sensitized populace.

That a legally owned item is stolen and then used in an illegal manor somehow justifies ownership restrictions is absurd. Ordinarily such a claim would be laughed out of town.

Suppose a legally owned automobile is stolen and then used in an illegal manor, racing for instance. Would that somehow justify restrictions on automobile ownership? Of course not.

The hustlers are working overtime to exploit this crime.
