For the first time since the 18th century, the European bison is returning to Germany to live in the wild. The wisent, as it is also known, has been brought to the country by a famous prince. With nothing but spruce trees for entire square kilometers at a time, this managed forest isn't exactly what you would call a wilderness. Nevertheless, the forest, together with its ponds and meadows, provides shelter to many a rare species.
In the forest surrounding the town of Bad Berleburg, on the southern edge of North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany, the lynx stalks its prey through the underbrush, the black stork breeds in the spring and the kingfisher engages in courtship rituals. And almost every day, even in rain or snow, and on Sundays, the aristocratic owner drives around in an SUV....

How do you say “Tatanka” in German?
I hope they know what they are doing and how to handle interaction with humans. Bison are really big animals and not at all domesticated. If you leave them alone and let them be on their way you are OK. But all it would take is some douche trying to get an up close and personal picture or to “pet” one to really spook the animal.
