STJARNHOV, Sweden, - Police in Sweden said they are searching for 69 cows that vanished from a farm on the day they were to be slaughtered.
Farmer Claes Roempke, 47, of Stjarnhov, said he was baffled by the disappearance of the cows, which he valued at about $107,600, Swedish news agency TT/The Local.se reported Friday.
"When I opened the gate, I saw the animals were gone," Roempke said. "I have no idea where they've been taken. I hope they are alive and are OK."
Police said they are investigating the incident.
"We have the ID number of all the cows and will match them with the Jordbruksverket (the Swedish Board of Agriculture) register," police spokesman Thomas Tellebro said. "But it is hard to get hold of people during the Christmas holiday period."
He said it is unlikely the thieves took the cows to a slaughterhouse.
"It's not easy to get rid of cows. If someone comes with 69 cows to a typical slaughterhouse, the cows must be registered and that's how the slaughterhouse sees where the cows came from," Tellebro said.
They just up and mooooved
Unless you've pledged the same cow as collateral on two different loans, and then it becomes amazing easy for cows to disappear, and ID tags to fall off, and ect.
The aliens are taking them to mutilate them...
It looks like PETA has mooved to IKEA territory to do a little cattle rustling.
“I hope they are alive and are OK”
Yes, we hope that they are alive so that we can KILL THEM!!!!
Yeah that was the money quote right there..hope they are fine so we can kill them ourselves lol..smart cows
They have the numbers??
Just wait for them to use a credit card, then...
In related news: McDonald’s (Sweden) announced that there’ll be a 2-day hiatus on all beef-related products, and that only Chicken McNuggets will be available...
Agricultural theft is a huge problem in the US. The price of beef goes up, and entire herds disappear. I’m sorry to see that it is a problem in Europe too. Something like this is especially hard on farmers, who have expenses all year, like buying your stock, feed, vet services, etc all year, and then when you finally are supposed to get a payday, poof! Some thief has come in and stolen it!
That is Utterly distasteful!!
