Today is my "Going Galt" day as I retired in preparation of moving to the retreat in the mountains. To wash the taste of work and DC out of my mouth and to bask in the atmosphere of good vibes I decided to go to the 1000-table gun show at the Dulles Expo center about 15 miles from DC.
As I approached the neighborhood, traffic was so heavy I could hardly even get off the highway, "No biggie," sez I as it was Friday afternoon. As I approached the Expo Center I saw a different truth, that it was traffic to the gun show that caused the gridlock.
I have never before been to a big gun show where not only was there no parking to be had, but there was gridlock in the parking lot and I wound up parking a couple shopping centers away.
The came the entry lines. There were two lines snaking around the huge hall all the way around to the back, essentially four blocks long. There were hundreds, perhaps thousands of people in line and it took ONE HOUR to get inside. Once inside, there was virtually no moving around as the crowd was so huge there was almost no floor space available for walking.
ARs were flying out of there, and it seemed like the floor price level was in the $2600 range, with some tricked out versions going for close to $5k. Ammo was plentiful but price was up about %50 from the last time I bought any. And guys were wheeling out hand trucks of it.
The dealers were saying that today was nothing compared to what they expect tomorrow. One reloading supplier told me he expects to have virtually no inventory to pack up and haul home at the end of Sunday.
Yep, Barack Hussein Obamao is the nation's #1 gun salesman for the fifth year in a row.
Now, back to "Going Galt."
Surely there were hundreds of shooting deaths with such a critical mass of firearms and people. Did the media cover it up?
Hey, CrazyIvan, I haven’t heard from you in a coon’s age. Where you been?
I've been to some really big gunshows, but never anything like this.
Did you see the protestors, dressed in pink, and chanting, “Ban assault weapons today!”
I got 1,000 round of 9mm for 23 cents per round. In July it was 21 cents each. Not bad.
I got 500 .45 cal for .34 cents each, again, not bad.
I have been going to that show for 10 years and have never once waited in line for even 10 seconds. This was truly amazing.
Will O be calling in tens of thousands of UN troops to round up all of these weapons, or will he be using Homeland Security brownshirts?
I LOVE this show. This time, however, I didn’t see a single full auto Thompson... I usually see five or six. Very little full auto of any type this time. Don’t know why. The things you see there.... A guy had an Enigma machine once for $10,000. Another guy had a box of Herman Goering’s personal cigars, crest and all, for $2,000. A guy had a GE gatling gun for $250,000. A guy had a WWII German Field Marshall’s baton for (I think) $16,000. A GREAT SHOW.
Makes me feel so good when I read this sort of thing.
How are the prices on the pistols and rifles? I’m going there tomorrow. I’ve never been to a gun show before.
Dang. We were thinking of going this weekend, but not sure we can fend off those sort of crowds. We go to this one pretty regularly.
You can definitely get a good deal, but it’s the old legwork thing... A LOT of the deals are NOT as good as you can get elsewhere. I was very pleased to get a S&W 4506 in pristine condition for $400 2 years ago.
I just came from my local gun store which is probably the biggest one in N Alabama and it was wall to wall people. I didn’t own a gun before tonight but have had a concealed carry permit for awhile lol. I was intending to by a Bushmaster M4 but they were sold out of everything even closely resembling that. They were also sold out of most pistals also but I did manage to get a Smith & Wesson SDVE 9 mm which was cheap, but has descent reviews. I bought 100 rounds of Remington 115 grain jacketed hollow point for 0.40 a round so your price was better than mine.
Are you series??
I have a feeling that a new assault weapons ban isn't as inevitable as it first seemed. A lot has changed since DiFi’s first crack at it in ‘94.
For one, 49 of the 50 states now have some form of concealed carry, and the modern sporting rifle (otherwise known as the AR) has been the single most popular type of rifle sold in the past 5 years.
Call your congresscritter and voice your displeasure at any potential gun or magazine ban.
Good luck with your *going Galt*!
We were in Cabela’s last week. The wait for permit approval was well over 2 hours. The store had set up rows and rows of folding chairs [it looked much like the DMV] and they were serving complimentary coffee to folks waiting.
It was inspiring. Wish there was a way to poll the people on how they voted, among the customers.
This can not be possible. All I see on tee vee is weapons being turned into local authorities, tables full of them displayed neatly, mostly those awful ASSAULT RIFLES & HANDGUNS. I see nothing like you describe in the’news’. There is a gun show in Melbourne, FL tomorrow. I’m going to go over there to confirm your story. This is a regular show that normally overflows the parking lot - we shall see if what you witnessed repeats here tomorrow (I don’t need to attend the show, I’m good).
Back when Carl Rowan (extreme liberal journalist) shot a kid that was skinny dipping in the pool behind his DC house (with an illegal gun there), someone came up with a cartoon that showed a bunch of NRA guys carrying him overhead, as if he was their Super Bowl winning coach. Rowan was then shown screaming “...I SAID PUT ME DOWN!!!”.
Likewise, perhaps another cartoon where we replace Rowan with Obama and the NRA with “Gun Manufacturers”?
Will O be calling in tens of thousands of UN troops to round up all of these weapons, or will he be using Homeland Security brownshirts?
Doesn’t need furriners.
5,000 regular troops could paralyze America. Just set them up at selected choke points on the Interstate highway system.
36 hours later, supermarket shelves would be empty.
24 hours after that, Tea Party people and just about everybody else would be peeing their pants and begging for mercy.
If done right, it would take a lot less than most people realize.
This is indicative of a huge cultural movement and the GOP is totally missing out on it.
You got hollow points... I was just picking up cheap range rounds. Sounds like you got a good deal to me.
catpuppy! I found your bear!
I was there. We parked in the Holiday Inn parking lot. Got in line halfway around the building till an NRA rep told us to renew our membership for $30 and we walked to the front of the line.
Living in Merryland we can’t buy hicap mags which was the mission of the day. They were scalping them for more that double the cost. My only solace is Brownells is sold out of all of them.
Surefire 60rd $200
Magpul 30rd $40
Glock 31rd $80
And your point is??
All this frenzy about getting armed is encouraging to me. It lets me know that there are significant numbers of people who believe in the constitution and are exercising their right to keep and bear arms. This has to be scaring the piss out of liberals who until now thought they had us all controlled and on the plantation. They detest it I know, but they also must be aware that they have awakened the patriotic spirit and determination of millions and that scares them. The moral: Never back an opponent into a corner that you cannot defeat.
Trader Jerry’s had a line that wrapped around his table with a 30 minute wait just to pay for their purchase.
Never seen anything like it.
Looks like it’s finally shaken loose a bunch of “I don’t own a gun but I support people that do” crowd. Now they need to get to the range and learn to use them!!
You forget one thing: MOST Tea Party types don’t live “close-in”. We live out where food is GROWN. Many of us are preppers.
Block traffic to the cities. . . and primarily Lefties starve. . .
You’re thinking Strategy and Tactics. Which is a mistake. LOGISTICS is what wins wars, of whatever type. . .
One would hope that your “5,000 regular troops” will have the intestinal fortitude to uphold the oath they took when they enlisted.
If the Armed Forces, who have sworn an oath to the US Constitution cannot honor that oath, we are doomed!
So could 5,000 really pissed citizens.
City folk haven't a clue. They think the origin of food is a truck...
Bushmaster “lost” my order on (12/24 8:30pm) on their website (gave me a confirmation # though, but no email confirm, and I’m following-up on it) for 30-30rnd and 25-40rnd mags. $1,660 + shipping, disappeared into the ethernet! Still waiting to hear back from webmaster and cust serv depts. I’ll be calling my cc co on Monday to see if charge went thru. Dammit. Never had a problem with them in past 9-10yrs. My safe’s overflowing w/ mags now, but these were for myself and OP.
Check our their ammo list - SOLD OUT top to bottom.
Who has the world’s largest Army?
and this just accounts for the registered hunters. You can probably more than double this number for gun owners...and the tens and tens of thousands that have joined the ranks of gun owners since 2009, with a huge push in 2009, another after 6 Nov, and now after Conn...and the enemies-domestic came outof the shute full bore for gun control, using the masacre of those little ones for their agenda.
Hopefuly, the enemies-domestic will heed the advice Hirohito did in WW11 - when he decided against attacking America’s homeland. He was not afraid of the American gov’t or military - but it’s PEOPlE because, they said: Behind every blade of grass is a gun.
I suspicion the plotters are a bit nervous at the ramping up of citizens arming up like never before.
We were in Pro Bass yesterday and they had very little inventory left. No black rifles. Ammo was really picked over also but the gun counter was still wall to wall. Then we cruised over to our favorite gun store and it was so jammed you could hardly walk around. Long line for the range too.
Exactly. I have handled and used guns all my life but it's been quite a few years since I have fired pistols. I intend to hit the range and take some training for pistols. The main thing is SAFETY. I think proper training and tons of practice is essential to any handgun owner. Even though I know how to use and safely carry a handgun, I believe that it's like flying, i.e, you need periodic checkups and training refreshers. The goal is to have your weapon and your training available if you ever need it to defend your life, but to never ever have an accident occur from improper or forgotten safety measures.
I can’t mentally take those kind of crowds or traffic, anymore. That’s why I’ve been buying mags/ammo heavily online for the past 2-3yrs. If I can recover the “lost order” from Bushy, and you want some, my offer stands.
The GOP is too busy following the media and writing their "sensible gun control" manifesto for the next news cycle.
Thanks for the head’s up. I think I’ll skip it and shop elsewhere. Any suggestions for good places in the area? I live in Fairfax.
There need be no obvious reason to think there was anything underhanded going on.
For instance, imagine you turn on the Nightly news some evening...
you hear Brian Williams (or whoever the shill of the day say “Breaking news: Today, the CDC has confirmed three cases of Ebola in (fill in the city of your choice, just for grins, lets pick) Atlanta, Georgia.”
There. There ya go.
One things for sure. It would no longer be “business as usual”. In fact it might never be “business as usual” again.
Now, think about this: If your neighbor and his family was starving, do you think he might tell the Feds you have guns if they give him say, a case of nice T-Bones from Kansas?
I’m just playing hypothetical games here. Probably, whatever happens, it will be different from anything any of us has ever imagined.
But I think the very last scenario is anybody going door-to-door to collect guns. The cost of that approach would be way, way to high.
Clark Brothers or Loudoun Guns for a large selection and VERY knowledgeable sales people. Price-wise, you’re probably better off on the internet.
There is a 1500 table show in Indianapolis about 4 times a year. Indy 1500.
The GOP would not know if it was literally on fire.
I’m now wholly convinced that the GOP couldn’t find their pompous asses with one, the other or both hands.
I received this in an email today. I haven’t fact checked the numbers but thought I would send it your way due to your comment.
Following the horrible crime in Connecticut, there is a lot of talk by oath breakers about curtailing freedom. Marxists calling themselves Democrats and liberals calling themselves Republicans have made it clear, They intend to disarm Us.
From the left side I hear cries for confiscation, and from the right I hear Molon Labe. To suggest that this could not lead to civil war is to ignore history. War is an ugly thing, so in the interest of peace I wish to help Them understand Us and vice-versa.
Cold Hard Numbers: Us
Estimates from various sources, from liberal to conservative , have the number of privately owned firearms in the United States in the vicinity of 300 million. Countless polls estimate these weapons are owned by around 47% of US households, or about 54 million. (47% of 114,761,359 households per US Census http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html)
The 1775 population of the 13 colonies including slaves and Native Americans was around 2.4 million.
At the height of the revolutionary war in 1779, there were 35,000 Continental Soldiers and Marines, 44,500 militia and 5000 Continental Sailors fighting for freedom, for a total of 84,000 colonist men. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary_war)
This gave us an active combatant ratio of 3.5% of the population. This ratio was smaller during the earlier stages of the war, and once this and the 12,000 late arriving French troops are taken into account, the overall generally accepted 3% figure is derived.
3% of our population today equals 9.35 million, and this is only part of the story. I could make a very strong case that due to the fact that we today have a large standing army, and in colonial days they did not, the percentage of active combatants in any future resistance to disarmament would double or more. There are currently around 10 million oath-bound military veterans in the US between the ages of 22 and 50, many of them combat vets(http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html)
I will leave this case for another time, because 3% is enough. Here are some quick numbers for comparison from the Federation of American Scientists.
3% US population 9.35 million
Chinese Military (active) 2.25 million
Russian Military (active) .96 million
US Military (active) 1.46 million
So, we are 9.35 million, but who are we ?
-We are overwhelmingly Christian.
-We dominate the military and veteran ranks.
-We are competitive shooters, hunters, outdoorsmen, fishermen, ATV and dirt bike riders.
-We are fathers and husbands, sons and grandsons of the generations who won the world wars.
-We are law abiding citizens who have been sold into slavery with a national debt so big it would take a tax increase, per household, the size and duration of a mortgage to pay off.
-We work in law enforcement, City, State and Federal. We are deeply among Them.
-We are 9.35 million men with battle rifles, not armed because we are free, but free because we are armed.
Cold Hard Numbers: Them
During the disarmament trial runs at Waco and Ruby Ridge, it was the ATF and FBI that bravely lead the charge against vicious women and children. Any future enforcement of new federal disarmament laws would be carried out by oath breaking members of these two agencies. Lets break it down.
BATF (2006) 4,559 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BATF)
FBI 36,074 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fbi)
This gives us a total of 40633. There could be hidden within other agencies additional groups of oath breakers who may be used for disarmament. Because I am working toward a ratio, and I used what I believe to be a 50% low estimate on the Us column, I will not add an estimate for additional feds on the Them side. Dont forget that We are deeply among Them, and They live among Us.
9,350,000 / 40633 = 230.1
We have Them outnumbered by >230:1.
Now that both parties have a proper perspective on things let us continue the conversation with the levels of respect and confidence due.
What about the military ?
There are differing opinions about this, most having a valid basis. I will lump local and state law enforcement into this portion of the discussion. I believe that at a local level, you could see almost anything happen militarily in the hypothetical case of resistance to disarmament. On a strategic nationwide level, unlawful orders to disarm the American populace would cause a stalemate within the military. Such unlawful orders would be carried out by some and opposed with force by others at levels from individual to division. Debilitating acts of sabotage both of covert and overt nature, at all branches and levels within the service, would skyrocket.
The US military, by and large, is comprised of citizens of the states and areas most likely to resist disarmament by force. This is the point in the discussion to consider the nations considerable veteran population. There are around 10 million veterans in the US between the ages of 22 and 50. We are most concentrated in the areas most likely to resist disarmament. We are the fathers and brothers of many active duty military members. We are armed. We are trained and experienced tankers, pilots, medics, infantrymen and Special Forces Operators. For every Ranger or Marine on active duty, there are as many as 7 armed veterans of fighting age with the exact same skill and training on the civilian side.
Splits within the military in the US happened during the Civil War, and even during the Roosevelt administration. General George McArthur took bribe money and signed on with a group of globalists to overthrow the US Government by force. US Marine Smedley Butler, when approached by the same group, went undercover and gathered information which he took straight to congress. Butler single handedly saved the nation in the most covered up piece of US History of all time. Read The Plot To Seize the White House by Jules Archer or Devil Dog by David Talbot for more information on this.
When an oath breaking Marxist who throws like a girl gives an order to an oath keeping Marine from Houston to shoot an oath keeping Former Marine from Houston because he wont disarm, what do you think will happen ? Every active duty officer, sworn to uphold and defend the US Constitution from domestic enemies should think on that long and hard. Although localized actions of all types are likely, I predict strategic level stalemate.
Visualization of 230:1
Imagine a 230 pound man versus a 1 pound purse dog.
Picture a large football stadium, completely sold out. The crowd versus those on the field and sidelines is about a 230:1 ratio.
Imagine a head on collision between a sport bike and a fully loaded 18 wheeler. That is a 230:1 weight ratio.
Take an ice cube from your freezer and hit it with an Oxy-Acetylene torch. That is a 230:1 temperature ratio.
It is being reported on the news that in Colorado (where Colorado Bureau of Investigations lightly staffed personnel handle background checks) that they currently have a backlog of 10,000 checks and that their “instant check” program is currently taking 10 days. This weekend’s large Tanner Gun Show in Denver will likely be impacted since there will be no way to complete a check before the end of the show.
Yeah, that worked so well in Iraq and Afghanistan < rolls eyes >
There is no question in my mind that a “False Flag” event will be triggered by the Obongo Bozo Administration within the next four years. It is going to happen!
HST, I remain hopeful that there are men and women of good character within the upper reaches of our government who will blow the whistle on these LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist/Fascist Bastards, and cause them to be FRog marched to prison.
We live in very perilous times, and it behooves each of us to be aware!
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst!
I saw some Scar 17 mags and asked the guy what he wanted for them. $125 ea!
I bought 6 a couple months ago on Gun Broker for $50 each and that was a ripoff.
LOL... they can’t even control the freaking border! Dream on.
Tanks for the offer, I really appreciate it. I think I got my fill today even at twice the price.
