Gun Show Eyewitness Report
self | 12/26/2012 | crusher

Today is my "Going Galt" day as I retired in preparation of moving to the retreat in the mountains. To wash the taste of work and DC out of my mouth and to bask in the atmosphere of good vibes I decided to go to the 1000-table gun show at the Dulles Expo center about 15 miles from DC.

As I approached the neighborhood, traffic was so heavy I could hardly even get off the highway, "No biggie," sez I as it was Friday afternoon. As I approached the Expo Center I saw a different truth, that it was traffic to the gun show that caused the gridlock.

I have never before been to a big gun show where not only was there no parking to be had, but there was gridlock in the parking lot and I wound up parking a couple shopping centers away.

The came the entry lines. There were two lines snaking around the huge hall all the way around to the back, essentially four blocks long. There were hundreds, perhaps thousands of people in line and it took ONE HOUR to get inside. Once inside, there was virtually no moving around as the crowd was so huge there was almost no floor space available for walking.

ARs were flying out of there, and it seemed like the floor price level was in the $2600 range, with some tricked out versions going for close to $5k. Ammo was plentiful but price was up about %50 from the last time I bought any. And guys were wheeling out hand trucks of it.

The dealers were saying that today was nothing compared to what they expect tomorrow. One reloading supplier told me he expects to have virtually no inventory to pack up and haul home at the end of Sunday.

Yep, Barack Hussein Obamao is the nation's #1 gun salesman for the fifth year in a row.

Now, back to "Going Galt."

You got hollow points... I was just picking up cheap range rounds. Sounds like you got a good deal to me.

I was there. We parked in the Holiday Inn parking lot. Got in line halfway around the building till an NRA rep told us to renew our membership for $30 and we walked to the front of the line.

Living in Merryland we can’t buy hicap mags which was the mission of the day. They were scalping them for more that double the cost. My only solace is Brownells is sold out of all of them.

Surefire 60rd $200
Magpul 30rd $40
Glock 31rd $80

All this frenzy about getting armed is encouraging to me. It lets me know that there are significant numbers of people who believe in the constitution and are exercising their right to keep and bear arms. This has to be scaring the piss out of liberals who until now thought they had us all controlled and on the plantation. They detest it I know, but they also must be aware that they have awakened the patriotic spirit and determination of millions and that scares them. The moral: Never back an opponent into a corner that you cannot defeat.

Trader Jerry’s had a line that wrapped around his table with a 30 minute wait just to pay for their purchase.

Never seen anything like it.

Looks like it’s finally shaken loose a bunch of “I don’t own a gun but I support people that do” crowd. Now they need to get to the range and learn to use them!!

You forget one thing: MOST Tea Party types don’t live “close-in”. We live out where food is GROWN. Many of us are preppers.

Block traffic to the cities. . . and primarily Lefties starve. . .

You’re thinking Strategy and Tactics. Which is a mistake. LOGISTICS is what wins wars, of whatever type. . .

One would hope that your “5,000 regular troops” will have the intestinal fortitude to uphold the oath they took when they enlisted.

If the Armed Forces, who have sworn an oath to the US Constitution cannot honor that oath, we are doomed!

City folk haven't a clue. They think the origin of food is a truck...

Bushmaster “lost” my order on (12/24 8:30pm) on their website (gave me a confirmation # though, but no email confirm, and I’m following-up on it) for 30-30rnd and 25-40rnd mags. $1,660 + shipping, disappeared into the ethernet! Still waiting to hear back from webmaster and cust serv depts. I’ll be calling my cc co on Monday to see if charge went thru. Dammit. Never had a problem with them in past 9-10yrs. My safe’s overflowing w/ mags now, but these were for myself and OP.

Many gun/ammo dealers are sold out - NO AMMO - not even taking backorders - say can’t take orders until 2014 - not a typo. Manufacturers can’t keep up - backed up for a year.

Check our their ammo list - SOLD OUT top to bottom.

Who has the world’s largest Army?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XjSSUC8IlY

and this just accounts for the registered hunters. You can probably more than double this number for gun owners...and the tens and tens of thousands that have joined the ranks of gun owners since 2009, with a huge push in 2009, another after 6 Nov, and now after Conn...and the enemies-domestic came outof the shute full bore for gun control, using the masacre of those little ones for their agenda.

Hopefuly, the enemies-domestic will heed the advice Hirohito did in WW11 - when he decided against attacking America’s homeland. He was not afraid of the American gov’t or military - but it’s PEOPlE because, they said: Behind every blade of grass is a gun.

I suspicion the plotters are a bit nervous at the ramping up of citizens arming up like never before.

We were in Pro Bass yesterday and they had very little inventory left. No black rifles. Ammo was really picked over also but the gun counter was still wall to wall. Then we cruised over to our favorite gun store and it was so jammed you could hardly walk around. Long line for the range too.

Exactly. I have handled and used guns all my life but it's been quite a few years since I have fired pistols. I intend to hit the range and take some training for pistols. The main thing is SAFETY. I think proper training and tons of practice is essential to any handgun owner. Even though I know how to use and safely carry a handgun, I believe that it's like flying, i.e, you need periodic checkups and training refreshers. The goal is to have your weapon and your training available if you ever need it to defend your life, but to never ever have an accident occur from improper or forgotten safety measures.

I can’t mentally take those kind of crowds or traffic, anymore. That’s why I’ve been buying mags/ammo heavily online for the past 2-3yrs. If I can recover the “lost order” from Bushy, and you want some, my offer stands.

This is indicative of a huge cultural movement and the GOP is totally missing out on it.

The GOP is too busy following the media and writing their "sensible gun control" manifesto for the next news cycle.

Thanks for the head’s up. I think I’ll skip it and shop elsewhere. Any suggestions for good places in the area? I live in Fairfax.

There need be no obvious reason to think there was anything underhanded going on.

For instance, imagine you turn on the Nightly news some evening...
you hear Brian Williams (or whoever the shill of the day say “Breaking news: Today, the CDC has confirmed three cases of Ebola in (fill in the city of your choice, just for grins, lets pick) Atlanta, Georgia.”

There. There ya go.
One things for sure. It would no longer be “business as usual”. In fact it might never be “business as usual” again.

Now, think about this: If your neighbor and his family was starving, do you think he might tell the Feds you have guns if they give him say, a case of nice T-Bones from Kansas?

I’m just playing hypothetical games here. Probably, whatever happens, it will be different from anything any of us has ever imagined.

But I think the very last scenario is anybody going door-to-door to collect guns. The cost of that approach would be way, way to high.

Clark Brothers or Loudoun Guns for a large selection and VERY knowledgeable sales people. Price-wise, you’re probably better off on the internet.
