LETHAL assault rifles like the one used in America’s Sandy Hook school massacre are being LEGALLY sold in Britain.
A Welsh-based firm is advertising a Ruger SR-22 semi-automatic as a “clone” of an AR-15, the gun loner Adam Lanza used to kill 26 people.
Shocked campaigners are demanding new gun controls after The Sun discovered British dealers selling the weapons.
A similar gun to Lanza’s intimidating Bushmaster AR-15 is being sold by Arundel Militaria, based in Knighton, Powys.
Anybody wanting to own the gun in Britain would need a section 1 firearms licence.

Except for that whole bit about it firing .22 LR ammo, a great deal less powerful than that fired by the Bushmaster.
The only significant way this rifle is "like" the one used at Sandy Hook is that it has a superficial visual similarity.
Not to mention the obvious fact that neither of these guns is an "assault rifle."
Most American journos have at least switched to calling them "assault weapons," which has a vague enough definition to be be somewhat accurate.

The current licensing procedure involves: positive verification of identity, two referees of verifiable good character who have known the applicant for at least two years (and who may themselves be interviewed and/or investigated as part of the certification), approval of the application by the applicant's own family doctor, an inspection of the premises and cabinet where firearms will be kept and a face-to-face interview by a Firearms Enquiry Officer (FEO) also known as a Firearms Liaison Officer (FLO). A thorough background check of the applicant is then made by Special Branch on behalf of the firearms licensing department. Only when all these stages have been satisfactorily completed will a license be issued, which must be renewed every 5 years.
Now semi-auto rifles, owned by millions of civilians and carried by millions of soldiers and police, are “massacre guns.”
Could see this one coming.
Allows sidearms to be drawn in to whatever ban gimmick they have in mind.

AFAIK, these guns aren’t semi-auto in Britain. You have to jerk bolt between shots.
The relevant fact for most is buried in the story:

But rim-fire rifles escaped the ban...”
Rimfire cartridge semi-autos would seem to be legal in the UK, with licensing.
The article is a call to ban rimfire SAs.
I must admit, however, that UK journalism is a great deal more fun to read than the US version.
I'm not sure. I shoot, but only at clay pigeons using a shotgun.
And do you get to keep it at home loaded for self defense or do you have keep it unloaded and disassembled or a “registered gun club?”
And it is a .22 LR, for heaven’s sake.

While it certainly can be lethal, it is certainly no where near the same as the .223.

I guess that was really addressed to me? You have to have a secure gun cabinet and keep ammo and weapons separately.
You really have to be up close and personal. Then too, what size .22 was he hit with and how far away was the shooter? Most “assassination” guns are .22’s - the Israeli Mossad uses them. A .22 will whiz around your brain box scrambling it.

So, essentially, the firearm is useless. Big deal.
22 were used for assignation pistols only because of the ability to very effectively silence them.
They can be effectively silenced because they are so low power, lower speed bullet.
You can kill with them. But because they are such low power, it is typical for states to ban hunting with them.
DAR-by-sher it is, with the Y as a short sound. ;-)

I don’t think those are legal in UK. I believe only the rim-fire is available in semi-auto.

Every rifle in the world, no matter the make, manufacturer, caliber, etc. has the ability to be lethal, perform an assault and be intimidating. Of course a human behind the controls is required before any of these horrendous adjectives can be realized.

Centerfire is not legal from what I understand.
The Sun is peeing themselves over a .22lr woodchuck gun that ‘looks’ scary.
Strip it out and it is a Ruger 10/22 action and trigger group with exra exterior glamour bits.

To put this into perspective, my 8-year old daughter has an SR-22.
It replaced her pink Ruger 10-22 because she’s a lefty and the discharged rounds burned her arm.
I believe she’s murdered over 1000 iron siloutte targets of dinosaurs, ground hogs, and squirrels.

Technically the pistol is the SR-22P, and the rifle is the SR-22R.
MRS Turbo and I both got new .22 massacre weapons yesterday.
I already had a bunch of ‘hicap’ massacre mags for them so figured it was time to get the rifles ,too.
.22s are allowed for hunting in almost every state. The restrictions are on deer and bear in VA. Has to be .23 or larger.
