The mother of the teenage girl whose home was trashed after 800 people turned up to the birthday party she advertised on Facebook could be prosecuted, police said today.
Essex Police said they were considering bringing charges against former councillor Esther Hine for breaching the peace and for allowing underage drinking in her home.
Mrs Hine's semi-detached house was trashed after her daughter Sarah, 14, advertised her birthday party on Facebook and it was gatecrashed by hundreds of strangers who ripped doors off hinges, jumped through the loft floor, and scrawled on walls.
The trail of destruction began when what was supposed to be an early 15th birthday party for Sarah Hine's 30 closest friends turned into chaos as up to 800 people arrived with bottles of alcohol having seen the party advertised on social media sites

With Facebook and texting... high school parties are usually not considered a “good” idea today (well, that is what I hear). Let your teen have a party and allow say twenty kids... soon turns out to be 100+. I know of one family that allowed their teen daughter to have a “small” get together. Long story short... they had to call the police and had damage in the house. It wasn’t from the kids who were invited.. but word gets out to other kids (even in other schools).
Semi-Detached means the house shares a wall with the house next door.

Here we have just the one-shared-wall type which we call duplexes and omit any reference to degree of detachment.
No, they’d still be considered row houses according to the ‘rules’ - to be semi-detached, you must be one half of a pair.
The reason for the terminology is mostly social - a semi detached house is much more middle class than a row house, much more desirable.
There are also, often, important legal differences. Semi-detached homes generally have a separate title for each of the homes and the land they sit on, where row houses generally only have one title for the whole row. You can buy a single semi-detached house, you can’t generally buy a single row house.
A duplex, by the way, in the UK (and Australia) is when you have a two floor building with a separate ‘house’ on each floor.
