Headset Help
Self | 1/3/2013 | Self

Help! My daughter, who loves gaming, goes through headsets quite quickly. Can anyone recommend which brand and model to buy. I don't have a lot of money, but the really inexpensive headsets only seem to last a few months and therefore seem to be a poor value. I'm looking for something rugged that will last longer than an 0bama promise and will work on a Windows 7 PC.

I can’t speak from direct experience, but when my son the gamer (Xbox) asked for a headset last Christmas, the brand he wanted was Turtle Beach.

Just get the cheap ear buds for cell phones.

they cost $5-$10 bucks and produce great sound using the equalizer in your computer.

I know exactly what you mean. Sony makes a over the back neck ultra light head set which has acceptable sound quality, but it only lasts about 6 months before the wires break. But it is so comfortable and I can wear a hat without obstruction.

My other Sony headset is over head with good sized speakers and it has heavier wires and has lasted over a year. Model # MDR-ZX100. It is not very expensive either. Sound quality is very good for every day use, better than the lighter model.

Do you want just good stereo sound or do you want suround sound 7.1? Wireless or wired? Gaming machine(what kind) or PC? Brluetooth? Microphone (what features). These questions all affect the price and recommendations. Wireless sets will cost you the most. You can get some decent gaming headsets for $60-80 if the are wired and you just want stereo and basic mike. Good wireless one will set you back $200+. One last question: How hard is she on her things. My daughter when she was a teenager really took care of things. I was hard on them.

Depending on the features the run from about $60 to $250. They do have God sound quality and are carried in the big box stores.

My little brother is a gamer and he goes through them like $1 cheeseburgers from BK. The latest he got was R@ Sheldon Spitfire headphones which are known in the gaming community. I’m in Canada right now and got them for $15 at Winners, the canadian version of TJ Maxx and Ross.

I have had the same problem with my daughter. I’m not really a fan of Best Buy, but they do offer a warranty on headsets for a pretty nominal fee which I found worth it after going through so many so fast. I’ve had no hassles with getting them replaced, and was actually surprised how easy it was. That was my solution to the problem.

The one she buys with her own money and will actually take care of or go without.

I’d love to find a set of earbuds that my cat won’t chew through.

My gamer son goes thru them quickly too. I think the last ones he bought were more for a cell phone the he plugs in to the controller and they’ve lasted longer. He went thru 2 Turtle Beach ones... the wires wear out quick.

Glad I’m not the only Freeper with a hard core XBox gamer in the family. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked “what?” only to find he’s walking around the house talking to someone over XBox with his earpiece.

The STYRO kids all swear by Skullcandy. Seem to be the longest lasting ones out there.

Other gamers reccomend this also.
Tell her not to run into walls while gaming. That’s what the game is for.

Most call centers use Plantronics headphones. Their commercial grade equipment is nearly bullet proof. Plantronics headsets went to the moon on the Apollo missions. They make consumer grade equipment now and I’m not sure how good it is but a headset from their commercial line should last.

If she “wears out” headphones that fast, she’s an addict. Take away her computer.

How old is your daughter? I bet if you put her young A$$ to work and she had to PAY for these headsets then she would take care of them and they would last MUCH longer.

Don’t have a daughter - “young A$$” or otherwise.
