RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia gun sales surged to an apparent record high in 2012.
State police statistics on gun buyers' mandatory criminal-background checks showed that there were 432,387 gun transactions last year, a 35 percent jump from 2011. Records show that it was the largest year-to-year increase in 20 years and the third-largest increase overall since Virginia's background check program was implemented in 1989.

I’m certain the same could be said for New Mexico, and almost all the remaining states. Here in Albquerque metro area, the good stuff is already gone, and not getting replenished fast enough. No .223 to be found. Nothing that shoots .223 to be found. For that matter, just about anything semi-auto and in decent shape is flying off the shelf faster than a Cabbage Patch kid in a 1980s Christmas sale.
I know I contributed to that a little. In the month of December I bought a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol. A Mosin Nagat, a Remington 870 Tactical, and a Sig Sauer P938 Nightmare subcompact 9mm. Bring on the zombie apocalypse!
I’m happy to say I helped, and hopefully will again in 2013.
