A German minister is calling for children to be given the vote, it was reported on Thursday. He said that excluding the country’s 13 million under-18s was “absurd”, triggering a backlash from other politicians.

Dirk Niebel, Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development told the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ), “We must give children a voice—in elections as well.” The current age limit on voting in Germany is 18, which, he said, was “completely inappropriate”, although he was not specific about when he wanted children to be given suffrage.

On a practical level, the Free Democrat (FDP) politician said that parents could take responsibility for overseeing their child’s vote or even using on their behalf. …

The kids can’t be much dumber than the average Democrat voter.

This would be an easier argument to counter if adults weren’t degenerate dumbasses. How much worse could know-nothing punk kids possibly do?

Its a little like the gay marriage argument. My opposition to gay marriage would be much simpler if straight people hadn’t so degraded the institution by themselves.

hum?
So give 15yo the vote, but they can drive til 16, can’t marry or serve the military or smoke til 18, and can’t drink til 21........because they are to stupid, yet informed enough and smart enough to vote.
Well, considering the idiots who voted for obama the second time....they couldn’t be any worse.

Hey, in 1945 the Germans basically told young teenagers and very old men to grab whatever they could go fight Stalin’s Red Army.

What does age matter? It is politically expedient for you to serve the Fatherland. Now go and vote — as someone once said, if you are not a socialist at 20, then you haven’t got a heart. By having the young vote, the Social Democrats think they will gain an advantage.

Why sure, give children the right to vote. Children are affected by legislation, so they should have a voice in shaping that legislation.

But don’t stop there. Central bank policies can affect the price of pet food. Therefore, give the vote to dogs and cats as well. But I would draw the line at goldfish. Goldfish don’t seem very smart.

As far as hamsters, birds, etc. go, deciding on whether or not those pets can vote should be a states rights matter.

No, as in any vote, they get choice A or choice B.

Choice A = go to bed at my time so you’ll be well rested so we can all go the the water park tomorrow or

Choice B = go to bed at you time and stay home tomorrow because I’m not going anywhere with grumpies.

51% of U.S. voters in this past election were children. We’re way ahead of you Germans.

This is only a natural extension of the trend in the past 200 years or so. I can’t imagine why it hasn’t been widely called for yet, except that people just haven’t got round to it. Certainly those who vote currently base on no other qualification than age and good standing citizenship are demonstrably less fit to decide things for themselves, let alone the body politic, than countless children.

Oh God no! Immaturity and believing in fantasy is already the problem. If anything the voting age needs to be raised, to at least 25 if not 30, employed high school graduates at a minimum.

I’m all for it if you also make them start paying taxes like everyone else and hold them responsible for any crimes they commit. No more of this “juvenile” BS. EVERYONE gets tried as an adult no matter who old they are. I know it’s hard for the commie libs to get people to vote for them but this is absurd.
