Well, were awake now. Largest tremor we've felt here in a long time. If you have friends in S.E. Alaska they probably just felt the quake that woke my family up with shaking and things falling off the shelves.

Since the quake was in Alaska would the tsunami be headed towards Russia?

I took time to immediately call friends who live on the water. At times like this I’m glad our home is not on the water.

1100-1200 miles from where I’m sitting... didn’t feel anything.

Our youngest son, 18, made a last minute decision not to visit friends in Sitka via ferry boat on the 1st January. I didn't feel right about the trip for other reasons, but am especially glad he decided not to go, cancelling his ticket for a refund.

Maybe it goes in all directions, radiating from the center. Just a guess.

Thanks to you, and the other posters.

My wife and I were sound asleep when the house started shaking, that quake in November we all felt but it lasted no where near as long or felt as strong to us as this one did.

Our girls have a friend over tonight whose father is one of the commanding officers U.S.C.G base Ketchikan. I’m thinking they’ve got all hands “on deck”.

Sheesh, I’ve got an excuse for being up now, but what are you all doing up so late?

I’m Anchorage, more than 600 miles north, and I believe Eye of Unk is north of me.....not where tsunamis can get to us.

But the tsunami warning woke me up at my computer.

Thanks for inquiring.

This is just normal wakeup time for me.

As I have posted before, all can sign up for automatic earthquake notification from the USGS:
https://sslearthquake.usgs.gov/ens/

I get one on an average of one per week.

Any feedback from your friends on the water?

Be safe.

Tsunami warnings have broken into the tv twice now....Cape Suckling south to Vancouver Island.

Nothing, but in the morning will be talking with a sporting goods store manager in Craig who told me today (yesterday now) they have a case or two of 5.56 ammo, for a decent price.

It will interesting to hear how their night finished out, as close as we are in Ktn, they are practically on top of that one.

71 miles (113 km) WSW of Craig.....pretty close for a 7+.

Hope they are all safe...high and dry.

Just broke in again....tsunami warning continues. Now north to Cape Fairweather...canceled further north.

Craig at 1:15a.....whatever was coming should have made itself known by now.
