To: real saxophonist

Technically brilliant but personally I prefer more communication, emotion and feeling: Miles; Coltrane; even Shepp - many others.. Maybe if there was real saxophonist with them I’d appreciate it more! Just the duo- it sorta reminds me of something computer generated.

Yes, I tend that way too, technique is great, but the real point of music is non-verbal, emotional communication. If you focus on the technique too much, it kind of turns into musical masturbation.

There’s a reason that most popular music is very simple, and that is because you don’t need a lot of complexity to have the greatest emotional impact on a listener. Those forms might not be as intellectually stimulating, but it’s a trade-off that comes with the complexity.
