Cat Recovering After 80-Foot Drop
UPI ^ | Jan. 3, 2013

Veterinarians in Massachusetts said a cat is recovering from pulled muscles after falling 80 feet from a tree.

Dr. Rachel Francis of the Marion Animal Hospital said Wednesday the cat, dubbed "Fortunate," is receiving treatment for pulled muscles and a possible parasitic infection after she was trapped Tuesday, two days after she fell 80 feet from a tree when firefighters cut the branch she was perched on in a rescue attempt, The (New Bedford, Mass.) Standard Times reported Thursday.

"I don't see anything wrong with this cat; it's unbelievable," Francis said of the cat's miraculous lack of serious injuries.

Francis said no owners have come forward for Fortunate yet, but staff members said her behavior indicates she was a pet and not a feral animal.

The veterinarian said the cat will go up for adoption in about six weeks if no owner is found.

“Did it land on all fours?”

No, it had a piece of buttered toast strapped to it’s back, so it just spun and hovered above the ground.

This could be a new olympic event, ‘The Cat Drop’.

It could be held in the summer and winter games!

It likely pulled the muscle while frantically clawing at the air all the way down... :)

“This could be a new olympic event, ‘The Cat Drop’.”

Not to be confused with Cat Drop Soup, which is a rather tricky dish if you don’t want to be scalded.

When falling, cats tend to assume a flat, "sailcat" position, rather like a skydiver, that slows their velocity. And, as others have noted, you never see a cat skeleton in a tree.

That some UNION fire chief would saw off the branch the cat was on, 80 feet in the air, in an attempt to "rescue" something that didn't need help, is typical liberal planning...

Google "straight dope falling cat" if you doubt this.

hehe

I witnesses a cat falling from the top of a large grain elevator, easily more than 100 feet onto blacktop. It did indeed land on its feet and survived the immediate fall. All the internal damage lead to its demise soon after.

It went much better in the cat's dream the night before.

sounds more as though the cat is recovering from a parasite infection that of course had nothing to do with the drop! Sweet kitty. He probably jumped because he was sick of his worms and wanted them out. Knew the fall would get him a vet check up. Cat’s are so smart.
