Word For The Day, Monday, 1/7/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
cogent; adj.
1. Convincing or believable. 2. Relevant
Etymology: From Latin cogere (to drive together), from co- (together) + agere (to drive). Ultimately from the Indo-European root ag- (to drive, draw), which is also the source of such words as act, agent, agitate, litigate, synagogue, and ambassador. Earliest documented use: 1659.
USAGE: "[Michael Chabon's novel] 'Telegraph Avenue', tries to weave the stories of nearly a dozen different characters into a cogent narrative." Failure of Imagination; The Economist (London, UK); Sep 8, 2012.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
A+++ and it’s an outrage.
....i don’t get it? is her bronzer dripping on the sheet?
That, or it’s a reflective surface ... shoulda picked a better image for TAN
I think her face is melting.
the math equation is beyond my ken. beyond my barbie even. ; )
The sun is out and it is 42-but there is rain due tonight/tomorrow, supposed to last for a couple days-so I’ve collected kindling this morning, now I’ve got to go to the general store for provisions, and a new covered plastic trash can-I left one of mine just outside the gate, where I’d been picking up twigs and stuff over the weekend, and the deer played soccer with it...
Obama’s band of mafia thugs
Just don’t seem to understand
Their ideas are just not cogent
No matter that they sound grand
And why is any one surprised
At his high dollar vacation?
He has never cared for taxpayers
Ir their growing consternation
He wants to grab what he can-
Put into some offshore bank
So he’ll be as rich as Croesus
While he makes our economy tank...
It’s “cotangent” minus “tan.”
A+++ as usual, were a republican president to spend that sort of $$$$ on a vacation, there would be an unbelievable hue and cry. Obams does it and .... not a peep.
oh how SILLY of me.
It’s almost like they didn’t teach you ANY trig at law school. ;-)
i’m marinating in the res judicata right now, for my argument next week.
I think that was on the menu in one restaurant in Mexico!
very clever, since res is beef in spanish.
Milanesa de res was one of my favorites down there.
How do they make beef in Milan? What sort of sauce was it?
Sorry, a lame attemp to be smart by 0.5
It’s a fancy phrase for a breaded and fried cutlet. No sauce.
Thank you! Are your court plans going well?
I’m eating a small turkey, veggie and cheese sub with a side salad from my friend’s deli for a late lunch/early dinner, and was quite happy with it. But now, you and the Soother have made me hungry for nice, hot caldo de res with your talk about beef/res...
