Swedes Eat 70 Tonnes of Fake Beef
The Local ^

Posted on 01/07/2013 10:25:18 PM PST by nickcarraway

The fake beef was imported to Sweden over a two-year-period and sold in grocery stores, regional newspaper Nya Werlmands Tidningen (NWT) reports.

It was Tomas Narving of food wholesaler Svensk Cater who first discovered the scam.

He received a complaint from a client over meat labelled as Argentinian tenderloin.

"When we examined the meat we found traces of syringes," said Narving.

The National Food Agency (Livsmedelsverket) confirmed that the "tenderloin filets" were in fact pork cuts from fully grown pigs that had been dyed pink to resemble beef.

The companies CKA Chark, Heat och Barterinvest which imported the fake meat to Sweden were reported to the police.

A criminal investigation is currently underway.

Out of the estimated 95.5 tons of fake beef, about 70 have already been sold. That equals 350,000 tenderloin steaks weighing 200 grams each.

The meat was imported from Hungary and then sold to wholesalers in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Lithuania, according to Narving.

It was labelled as Argentinian, Hungarian and Italian beef tenderloin.

"People should not eat meat that is mislabelled and that contains banned colouring agents," said Britt Carlsson of the Environmental Department (Miljöförvaltningen) in Karlstad in west central Sweden.

"As far as I know the Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket) does not even approve of it being used as animal fodder."

The Karlstad municipality is now considering burning the three tons of fake Hungarian beef discovered in the region.

In December several municipalities sent out staff members to grocery stores to search for fake fillets.

"As a consumer it can be hard to discover whether a piece of meat is real or not, especially if it is used as a pizza topping or in a gorgonzola sauce," said Jan Sjögren at the National Food Agency.

???

I’m flummoxed as how anyone could be fooled by the taste. At least if they were sold as fresh cuts of meat. If the faux-beef was processed into sausages or the like, I could see it. But I can’t imagine mistaking pork loin for beef tenderloin. Doesn’t taste the same, and doesn’t cook up the same.

It’s Europe. Next week the EU will announce the chocolate ration will be increased from three grams to two grams and the people will rejoice.

...and my first thought went back to the pink slime controversy where a main stream media literally destroyed a legal, lawful, and long established, productive, profitable, and tax paying business by using a demeaning label to describe a good and useful product.

...and that media outlet is now enjoying the fruits of their idiocy through the filed lawsuit.

"When we examined the meat we found traces of syringes," said Narving."

I'm assuming this is a translation issue and it means they found evidence of dye injection into the meat and not pieces of sharp metal.

How many Jews ate the pork?
There’s going to be trouble.

Add me to your list of people whose first thought was glee about how many ate this ‘unclean’ food. (Then I shuddered because I lived in Sweden a few years and am glad this happened after I left—vomit!)

For those who are religiously observant, there are two circumstances where they might eat pork. The first is intentionally choosing to eat pork. In this case, the individual has to apologise to HaShem and not repeat the act. The second circumstance is where an individual unknowingly eats pork. In this case, the individual is not responsible for eating the pork.
I highly doubt the Jews will burn Sweden down.

It just drives me crazy because there is almost nothing that makes my mouth water like the smell of bacon sizzling. I was so overjoyed when they invented turkey ham and turkey bacon I almost did cartwheels.

For a Jew who actually kept kosher, pork would be no more prohibited than non-kosher beef.
