If a violin fell in the subway terminal would it make any noise?
Now, if the Midway USA guy was reloading ammo, I'd stop and watch.
No one stopped? What a barren world.
I am glad I got to see America twice in the ‘70s. Dan Peek died in July 2011.
He left America when he became a born-again Christian.
Ha Ha Ha We used to play “be a do do do do do doot doer of the word” to our kids all the time.
An elitist manipulation by the Washington ComPost with expected and desired results. Shameful!
The story did not surprise me. I’ve heard some really good folks in the subway. I played there a bit in the 70’s. Not that I was anywhere near the talent of this guy. Now they make you go and buy a badge from city hall or they throw you out. : )
I’ve heard some beautiful playing in the subway. It agonized me, but I couldn’t stop to listen because I would have lost my job or missed being on time for court—disaster! If they had announced this in advance, the subway would have been completely jammed with reverent, thrilled crowds, despite the hideous acoustics. But people really don’t schedule in an additional HOUR on their commuting time in case a brilliant internationally-famed violinist just happens to show up and start playing one morning. Commuting is ghastly in DC and there are enough delays and headaches. Jobs are too scarce to risk being late. Sorry, I don’t think this was a fair test.
