Hospitals across the country are being stretched for service as this year’s flu season looks to be the most intense in nearly a decade, with facilities beginning to turn patients away because of the danger that it could spread through their staffs.

Thirty-nine states and New York City have reported significant levels of influenza-like-illnesses as medical professionals are reminded of the 2003-2004 season when more than 40,000 people died because the predominant strain was so dissimilar from the vaccine that year, reported Fox News.

Hospital officials have described the season so far as “chaotic.” Doctors are telling patients to begin taking Tamiflu or other medications as soon as they begin to experience symptoms and some have set up tent facilities outside of hospitals to keep the illness away from their staffs. …

I had a flu shot in October and caught this flu last week.

It wasn’t as bad as the flu I had 12 years ago, but it did knock me out most of the week productivity-wise. Tamiflu appeared to help some.

No flu shot, ever, and never had the flu.

Poor wife gets shot every year and seems to get the flu every year. Go figure.

This article is the epitome of the underlying problem with the medical system. Unless you are elderly or frail and the condition is life threatening, you should not be going to the hospital for the flu.

If I remember correctly, it was not too long ago (last fall) that the Government propaganda machine was touting that this years vaccines were covering all possible strains of the flu virus. How could this years outbreaks be happening? What went wrong? Health care providers are losing their jobs for refusing to get a flu shot. We are all in the midst of a terrible dream.

Union built hospitals? You would think they would build them stronger.

Wait until next year when Obamacare kicks in... flu epidemics will resemble the plague years of the Middle Ages with a huge shortage of doctors, Catholic hospitals closing in defiance to Obamacare mandates for abortion and birth control, and clinics overwhelmed by the Obama phone crowd looking for free care.

wash your hands frequently. wipe down your shopping carts. carry some hand sanitizer and use it frequently. watch the intimate contact. keep distance between you and others. minimize your chances of exposure. Use your own judgement on the flu vaccine. wash your hands frequently. If you get it, keep it to yourself.

"...because the predominant strain was so dissimilar from the vaccine that year..."

The flu shot push every year is the second biggest fraud on the American public since Obamas eligibility. That is the reason I never get a shot and rarely get the flu.

When I do get the flu I don't run to the ER and whine about it costing the tax payers a few thousand dollars. I take 2 aspirin every four hours (+/-4 cents) for elevated temperature, 1 shot of whiskey (+/-1 dollar) every two hours for muscle aches, one a shot lemon juice (+/- 25 cents) with honey for score throat, and make a conscious decision to commit 100 million reserve white cells (free of charge) to the fight. Just like my Grand Mother told me to do 60 years ago.

By the way, you didn't have to worry about going to jail if you gave a minor a few shots of whiskey for the flu in those days. People still had common sense.

When this flu variation enters hospitals by way of visitors, kids, utility workers, etc. then Katy bar the door. Nightmare ahead, if in fact it turns out to be as bad as they say it may be. Elderly patients. Immune system deficient. Babies. All at risk.

The responsibility for adequate and effective health care shall fall back to where it has belonged all the time, on the actions of the individual. Government or other third parties cannot provide health care on an individual basis, and never should have been charged to do so.

The growing doctor shortage will not be met in our remaining lifetimes. It has become a poor business model for the individual to become a practicing medical service provider, as the compensation shall never cover the costs of such dedication.

This means that less-well trained and motivated medical service providers, in fewer numbers, will be charged with providing services to a much larger population, which will be coming in for much more trivial disorders, leaving no time or resources to the treatment of real medical problems.

Including epidemics.

If you "rarely" get the flu, why do you have a treatment plan?
Just how often do you "rarely" get the flu, and how do you know it's the flu?

Well...of course it’s flu season...here’s why....those people during Christmas either attended Communion services on Christmas Eve, and broke bread and dipped it in wine/juice with a bunch of sick, hacking people (happened where I was)...or they shared food and germs with other relatives, some of whom were sick. (I refused to eat my wine dipped bread at Communion...just pretended. Of the four of us, I am the ONLY one who has not become ill. There’s probably a lady still mad at me because I would not shake her hand... I said I was sick...to which she said...”So am I.” I really was not sick, I just wasn’t going to take a chance on GETTING sick.)

And throw in a few million newly legalized illegals and a few million more new illegals wanting to get in on the next round of freebies.

Black licorice (and any other confectionary made with anise, which is the base ingredient in Tamiflu) will also help. As will straight Tabasco, cayenne pepper and extra doses of Vitamin C. Don't just take anything, make sure it has REAL ingredients. Cheaper licorice often substitutes fillers and flavoring for real anise.

Too much JD will get you sloppy assed drunk and possibly earn you a trip to the local slam where you'll be exposed to more flu.

Do you have a citation for that? It seems unlikely to me that any medical person would make such an outlandish claim.
