Many parents worry about their children's gaming habits and addictions these days. One father in China took it to the next level when he hired online gamers to 'kill' his son's avatars, according to local reports.

A Chinese father, tired of his son playing video games instead of looking for a job, decided to hire some assassins. Their job: to kill his son's characters in his favorite online role-playing games, local reports said.

Here's an antiquated notion. If you're feeling gracious, tell Junior he has 30 days to find a job and 30 days after that to move out.

If you're not feeling gracious, specify that "moving day" is in 30 days; I daresay Junior will be sufficiently motivated to take "any job".

I don’t see how the father’s action can make any difference, unless the kid is playing EVE Online. Most MMORPG’s simply allow the character to regenerate with all of his/her goodies.

Erhaps. But I admire the father’s humour and creativity on the matter. If I were the father, I’d be delighted to hear the son scream in agony over being hunted.

If might not be as simple as turning off the internet. Junior might be going to an internet cafe out of the home and spending his time there.

So dad is following his son around?

Wait - it's Red China. Could be!

I can somewhat sympathize. I had to spend the teen years of my youngest physically ejecting her from glowing screens. Of course she is now in her 20’s and has a life.

There’s a video on YouTube which appears to be real. It shows a guy’s girlfriend, tired of him ignoring her in favor of these online games, waiting until he leaves the house, and then she logs in, drops all if his stuff on the ground, deletes his characters, and then logs out. When he comes home, he absolutely FREAKS OUT.

I know some asian MMOs have a steep exp penalty for death. Lineage did when I played it ages ago. Perhaps newer ones still do. Even without that getting ganked over and over gets old.

“I don’t see how the father’s action can make any difference”

The game would cease to be fun really quick if you were the target of a perpetual gank fest. Though, the gankers would need to be online all the time waiting for him to appear to be of any use. Still, it is pretty funny.
