That dolphin behavior is not that rare.

Sometimes when we are offshore (Mass. Bay) and see them I will head in the direction the dolphins are going- then look behind the boat and adjust the speed to throw the biggest wake.(usually around 6-8 kts)
The dolphins will come over, surround the boat like you saw in the film -ride the bow wave, and body surf the wake right behind he boat. The charters love to see this and take pictures up close and personal. - tom

My son has a boat in Dana Point Harbor .When we’re out visiting ,from MA., we often go out to see the marine life but we’ve never seen anything like this. As you know, we can often see huge numbers of whales ,out there, putting on a show here on the east coast.
