No much of a "compromise" as it only give a 6-month deferment on any fines or penalties.

Just throw some hungry bugs into the garden and the problem will take care of itself.

Heck the worms eat my garden and its not in my front yard.

"We reached out to the community, talked to landscape architects, we looked at what other cities are doing," said Jonathan Ippel, sustainability director of the city of Orlando. "We're trying to be flexible and provide a variety of different options."
"Sustainability director?" Is this satire?

“Controversial vegetable garden”. Just goes to show there is nothing too small not to incur the regulatory wrath of a leftist busybody.

Look, in an urban or suburban area, a garden should be fine on one's side or backyard. In the front yard, in particular areas when there may be already existing limitations on keeping up appearances, I could see where this could lead to a problem.

OTOH, if a home that has debris and waste material in the same area isn't being singled out, then the town has no grounds to approach this family for enforcement. The standard has already been set. So the question I would have is "what is the history of enforcement to date?"
