Once it’s “there”, it’s always there, but just not publicly visible, I’m guessing.
I hear Twitter, LinkedIn and all those “social sites” are of the same ilk. Garbage collectors.
I never went on to any of them; I just had a bad feeling about it all being so available on the WWW (remember that?). Heh.
I limit my “social networking” to LinkedIn. My use of it is strictly as a professional network. As for Facebook, I would not even think of it, especially after living in a part of the country where adults still have the social mentality of junior high children (a state in the upper midwest).
There is however a trend where some companies will not hire a candidate without a Facebook profile. The claim is that the person has “something to hide”. Sorry, there are no salacious photos of me partaking in the “I wanna party-party-party and get drunk-drunk-drunk” pop culture. Besides, much of my “personal life” is quite ordinary, and I treat it as a “need to know” subject. And some of my professional background is “need to know” as well.
