Word For The Day, January 15, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
fatuous [fach-oo-uh s]
1. foolish or inane, especially in an unconscious, complacent manner; silly.
2. unreal; illusory.
[ 162535; < Latin fatuus silly, foolish, idiotic; see -ous ]
What did you call us???
The useful idiots who elected this stinking Marxist as POTUS cling bitterly to the fatuous hope that he will act with integrity.
Congratulations! Your husband made the funny pages.
OMG he did! that is priceless!
Yes, he was “the fat one.”
i am SLIGHTLY better at boybands on Songpop than i am on Hairbands. i SUCK at hairbands, they ALL sound alike to me—none of the songs really stick out to me, so i am not even capable of LEARNING them— Tesla, Whitesnake, Poison, etc. What was i doing then that i don’t know them? wasn’t it the 80s? I know other 80s music.
Yes, the 80s. Boy bands were, as they are now, pre-packaged pap for preteen girls.
Weren’t you busy with having kids then? Tmight excuse you not being as in tune with the music as someone who was in high school and college then.
Here’s a hint for identifying Tesla: if you feel the overwhelming urge to give the singer a throat lozenge, it’s Tesla.
80-83 was law school, got married in 85, xsteen born 1988. i associate New Wave music with law school. Childbearing years was 88-94, so i missed more the grunge era and the 90s.
what songs are associated with each of those bands? nothing comes to mind for any of them for me.
Tesla’s most famous ballad
A little single entendre from Whitesnake.
doesn’t ring even the slightest bell for me and is so non-descript that i prob won’t even recognize it in the game!
I can’t watch the fatuous fawning of the media at a Lyin’ King “Press Conference”.
slightly better. someone trying to channel Robert Plant there.
Tesla was one of my favorites, but they did not have the big hits like some of the others. And yes, they did sing about the inventor from whom they took their name.
Here’s another you might hear
ok, those i have heard before. thanks for the tutorial. wish i could remember the names of the other bands.
There’s a fatuous fat man in New Jersey. I hope he stays there.
Tesla also kicked off the entire “unplugged” genre with their acoustic live performance released as an album in 1990.
that’s not familiar. i guess i can see why they didn’t have big hits, the songs are pretty nondescript.
i feel so used and duped by him. i wanted to like him and to think he was good.
Savage is a nutcase.
Barack, sanctimonious, fatuous
Doesn’t care how close Lincoln’s statue is
Honest Abe never lied
And would never abide
The Lyin’ King (Oh, what a rat you is!)
I’m to the point of saying, you can’t jail us all.
suppose they can try....
I heard from my nephew that he won’t be reelected. That a popular dem is planning to run against him and will win. Any truth to that?
Right now the Fat Man is so popular that Cory Booker has decided to push over Lautenberg and run for the Senate instead.
The NJ Dem back benchers are deciding which one will be the sacrificial lamb in the governor race.
Thanks for the Poison.
our local radio station used to carry him at night. aside from the rare times I agreed with him, I laughed a lot. now we have huckabee. toss up as to which is better.
hmm, it’s been a few months, but I don’t think that was the name. when I heard this it was when I was disappointed as I still thought theblubberingfatman was still wonderful, so it’s been awhile.
This is the shortened name of the school where weight loss trainers go: Fat University Of U.S., Fat U o U S.
Lots of heavy thinking happens there too!
I also missed the hair bands era - but my son is into that music now and we listen to it a lot on XM radio - so I’m beginning to “remember” it a bit.
i’ve recently rediscovered Classic Vinyl, 26 on XM, and am enjoying that lately.
Yo, Mooschelle ... Fatuous!
I still remember when he went to Texas and rode with GW. Rush was saying if Lance just says he supports abortion and opposes guns the left will make him a victim and all will be well. RME
Seems like earlier this year there were SEVERAL freepers claiming the accusations against Armstrong were bogus.... totally believed him.
Gloomy, 40 and breezy-a textbook cold winter day here-
Despite the lack of interest
By the people of this nation
Obama says fatuous nonsense
About his latest vacation
For most of those of heard him
It just served to make them mad-
As he gloats about enjoying many
Of the things they’ve never had
Things they can’t even dream of-
As they work, he takes their money
As he sets himself up like Nixon did-
When he falls, we’ll find that funny...
Y’all got me jamming with your 80’s music posts...
There was something dishonest about Armstrong-now we all know what it was...
