Engineer petitions White House to build starship Enterprise
Examiner ^ | January 14, 2013 | Claire Thalken

An engineer who created plans to build a working replica of the starship Enterprise from “Star Trek” has created a petition for NASA to consider the feasibility of the project and re-imagine his design. As of today, his petition has gathered 6,293 signatures. In order to receive a reply from the White House, just over 18,700 additional signatures are required.

The engineer, who goes by BTE-Dan, has done more than just start a petition. He's created a website, buildtheenterprise.org, outlining why he believes the project would yield positive results for the country and the world.

“We have within our technological reach the ability to build the 1st generation of the USS Enterprise,” BTE-Dan wrote in his petition. "It ends up that this ship’s inspiring form is quite functional. This will be Earth’s first gigawatt-class interplanetary spaceship with artificial gravity. The ship can serve as a spaceship, space station, and space port all in one. In total, one thousand crew members & visitors can be on board at once. Few things could collectively inspire people on Earth more than seeing the Enterprise being built in space. And the ship could go on amazing missions, like taking the first humans to Mars while taking along a large load of base-building equipment for constructing the first permanent base there.”

BTE-Dan stresses that the ship would not be an exact replica as the technology does not exist, but he feels that using the design of the iconic ship would bring more public interest and enthusiasm in the American space program.

Outdated info. He now needs another approx 94000 signatures since the White House upped the number a few days ago.

That' rather an understatement. So, he wants us to build what is in essence a shell thank looks like the Enterprise while we lack the technology to even power it?

I'm thinking:

1) No matter-antimatter.

2) No gravity like the enterprise unless he plans on rotating it.

3) No impulse or warp drive.

4) Not to mention a large amount of red suits for all the people who will die on this thing.

5) Transporters.

6) No shuttle unless he wants to rip the decommed ones out of a museum (I could support this).

7) Clearly the only one with the ability to Captain it would be Obummer and that I can get behind.

8) Oh yeah, a vacuum/carpet cleaner that picks up the goo remaining of the crew the second they go into warp if that is ever possible.

I am signing this because a little green guy just ran out of a giant shimmering disk and told me “build the Enterprise and find the black obelisk you must.” He was being chased by silver dinosaur with acidic blood so it must be true.

You left out the Heisenberg Compensators.

Those would probably add another 50Billion to the Price Tag.

And just WHERE does he propose to find the Dilithium Crystals or a good cheap source of Xenite?

Freeman Dyson worked on the Orion Project to study the feasibility of nuclear engines for spacecraft, and thought he could build a nuclear starship for about the cost of a Trident submarine which was current at the time of the quote. Downside, no one would want to be downwind of the radioactive exhaust when it lifted off.

I heard the Sepia House has already rejected a plan to build a Death Star. I don’t think this one will be approved either.

Now to iron out the bugs in the warp drive. And figure out how artificial gravity works. And force fields. And impulse engines. And about 12,000 other things.

Building the Enterprise?

Wrong franchise for this regime.

We only have the ability to create the Debt Star, a powerful government able to destroy an entire economy.
