Richard Lugar Loses GOP Indiana Senate Primary by Landslide

The 36-year Senate veteran is trounced by Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, whose business and Tea Party backers spent $2.7 million to defeat a once-powerful pol they portrayed as out of touch.

That cracking, thudding sound emanating from Indiana on primary night Tuesday was the crumbling of a Washington institution, punctuated by muffled shrieks of terror from incumbent office-holders everywhere.

Republican Sen. Richard Lugar—a towering figure in the national-security, arms-control, and foreign-policy realms who six years ago was so popular in his home state that local Democrats didn’t bother to field an opponent—lost his bid for a seventh term to a lesser-known, more modestly financed challenger who successfully portrayed the 80-year-old incumbent as out of touch and not conservative enough.

your logic fails against the real problem which was that at his advanced age Lugar had become a drooler. his office and his votes were totally in the hands off his staffers ~ none of whom had been elected.

The real lesson is that what you need to do before you become too old is pass the torch before you get burned!

We have learned that intelligent, strong conservative candidates do not prevail in the presidential election.

Charismatic seems to be a more important quality. To prevail, there must be some sizzle, something special, an air of leadership.

If you’ve figured out how to replace a Democrat Senator in Delaware tell us your plan so we can have a really, really, really good laugh.

The only polls House republicans should be worrying about are the ones taken in their districts.

Stupid Mario thinks it's going to propel him to the presidency. Little does he know that NY gun law he just signed is the beginning of the end of his political career. Besides, the guy can't string two sentences together.

Soviet model!? Primary elections are American as apple pie. This is how representative democracy works. We elect representatives to...represent us. If they don’t represent us, we don’t elect them. How is this communist? seriously. explain that.

Actually, Lugar's ACA rating was right up there with Ryan ~ who was, until he revealed himself as pro-illegal alien, a TEAParty darling. Alas, the situation wasn't that Lugar was Conservative, or not Conservative ~ he was too old!

The Mormon who takes his place as most senior Republican in the Senate will be TOO OLD as well long before the Republicans again rule the Senate. They will discover their investment turned to dross ~

It ain't the conservative message that is the problem. It is the messenger. We have to find a better way to screen out the stupid.

Absolutely. It would also help if the messenger's weren't so boring that they couldn't sell the truth even to people starving for it.

Sharon Angle lost to the massive voter fraud in Las Vegas coordinated by
Pinky Reid !
The casinos were bussing it there employees and demanding they vote Reid !
The illegals were allowed to vote too.

Let’s talk about the losers like DC insiders who lost like Mack in FL ,
MT , ND , WI ,NV

True, but we need to ensure those who replace them are viable candidates who don’t come down with Tourette’s on hot-button issues.

While there was very likely voter fraud, to believe it made tha 9% margin of victory for Reid is a stretch. Angle was a horrid candidate.

A lot of it had to do with how much media attention they were given and that was very much a result of how nasty the RINOs were willing to be and how much support they could get among the low info republicans.

Here in Michigan, Kerry Bentivolio would have never won the McCotter seat if the RINO/DEM/Media coalition had gotten traction. When McCotter dropped out the GOP hand a hand picked establishment candidate all ready to go and wanted the rest of the “no chance” candidates gone but Bentivolio refused and won the primary by a wide margin.

Among the attacks Bentivolio faced was an estranged brother in law claiming that Bentivolio was going to be arrested on fraud charges any minute. On election day the media was happily reporting that charges against him would be announced in connection with the McCotter case and it didn’t happen. He was accused of abusing students when he was a high school teacher with a string of former students who tearfully claimed he yelled in class sometimes.

In the end, none of it got much attention outside the state and Kerry Bentivolio won the seat. However the senate is where the real firewall is.

Almost without exception the leftwingtard radio personalities who decide it's their job to take out conservative (notice the small 'c') Republican candidate's with nongermane questions are, themselves, dopers of long standing. Why they never got prosecuted, or why they got prosecuted and turned loose is a good question ~ one that we ought to have some of our elected Republican prosecutors taking a good look at!

The best defense is to get there fustest wif' the mostest!

That’s fine, so long as they don’t support an AWB, a magazine capacity limit, an impingement of private firearms sales, or firearms registration in any form.

"The real lesson is that what you need to do before you become too old is pass the torch before you get burned!"

Exactly right, but the love of the perks and the power plus thinking people respect them for "who" they are and not "what" they are always seems to make them think they're invincible just one more time...
