Officer opens fire on charging dogs in Fort Lauderdale
One dog was killed and another injured after they charged an officer and were shot in Fort Lauderdale Friday afternoon, police said.
The incident happened in the 1800 block of Southwest 22nd Street as the officer was responding to a complaint that a cat was attacked and killed in the neighborhood, Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Det. DeAnna Garcia said.
Garcia didn't say what kind of dogs they were, describing them only as "vicious."
The officer wasn't injured. Animal Control responded to the scene, Garcia said.
Doggie shooting ping
I worked residential telco in that neihborhood 20 years ago and it was a hell hole then.Sure it hasnt improved much and most of the dogs that were chained were pits and when they got loose look out.
It wasn’t called “Ft Slaughterdale” for nothing, even back then.
Apparently, in the animal kingdom, hate crime is punishable by execution.
If a non-government worker kills an unleashed government dog about to attack them they get anywhere from 4 years to life in prison.
Yep
It may not be fair, but most people don't understand what cops face doing their jobs and even fewer want to know.
However, the vast majority of people love their dogs a lot more than they love cops, few if any understands or accepts these no knock raids at the wrong address and no tax payer wants to pay to settle the lawsuits for cops killing people's dogs.
Not sure what the law of unintended consequences would have to say about this, but the police force alone should have to pay the in or out of court settlements in these cases, not the tax payer.
Making the bill paying citizen/tax payer afraid of his or her police force is not a good long term plan.
Something has the LEO’s at full alert.
Keep our pets safe. It might get rocky.
A few years ago the police were doing a search in the neighborhood. My little dachshund got loose. These police were kind. They said to the others to stand still and not frighten the dog so she can get him. That was good. However, I do not ever expect the same to happen again.
