Would You Eat Horsemeat? (Found in Hamburgers)
Guardian ^ | Wednesday 16 January 201

Versatile, healthy and in plentiful supply, there are many ways to prepare delicious dishes with horsemeat

The news that traces of horse DNA have been found in burgers on sale in UK supermarkets has predictably resulted in a minor storm – and a groanworthy selection of jokes – in the newspapers and on social media. But how rational is our horror of eating horse? And is it time to examine our prejudice against what is, after all, an extremely healthy meat?

Of course, the main reason to be scandalised by yesterday's revelations is not that Tesco was selling burgers containing horse, but that they weren't labelled as such. It's not illegal to sell horsemeat in the UK, but it is illegal to sell food containing ingredients that aren't listed on the label. The products in question also included traces of pig DNA, which is considerably more shocking, if you believe that a religious ban on eating pork carries more weight than a moral aversion to eating horse (although horsemeat is also forbidden under some religious dietary laws).

We pick up roasts when they are on sale and have them ground up. I like to know what is in my hamburger meat.

I've known a lot of horses personally, and liked a lot of them. I could not knowingly eat horse meat anymore than I could knowingly consume a cat.

However, that's my choice. If someone else wants to consume a horse, that is their decision.

We eat pink slime, roaches, rat turds, dead flies etc. What is wrong with a little Sea Biscuit? ;-)

I would try it. If good I’d eat it again.

I would go for it. I have a pretty wide view of what animals are edible. My coworkers think too wide. My wife can cook just about anything. We have a deal. If I catch it, she will cook it. I married the perfect woman.

I’ve never known a horse personally, although I have met a few bi-legged horse’s hindportions in my time here on the planet. In general I did not care for those so much.

Not for me but I’d sell it to my n-e-i-g-h-bors. If they can pony up the and money giddy-up over here I’d sell it. They eat like horses anyway.

I’d prefer not to... but in a pinch, I’d eat horseburgers over a lot of other things.

You’d better rein in your mischief and bridle your tongue before you stirrup trouble.

I generally think that animals which have proven useful in other jobs for us should get a reprieve from being food. Seems like a simple matter of courtesy.

However, if you’re hungry enough, courtesy goes out the window. So, maybe in a SHTF situation. Even then, a horse would probably be more useful alive than in my stomach.

Might not have many choice in Obamaville.

Either eat the horse, or feed it to the dogs and eat the dogs.

Don’t saddle him with grief about it, he was just horsin’ around. I’d better quit before I trot out some more old chestnuts.
