Vanity: Oklahoma has gone so politically red it's matching the clay-red dirt!

Continuing my map series on voter registration, this shows the county-by-county trend from last January. Democrats had a positive trend in only one county (Adair), and that was only +0.29%. Republicans netted positive percentages in the other 76 counties, capped with +8.22% in Marshall County.

With the rate at which the GOP is catching up to the Democrats, the Republican Party will likely take the lead in voter registration sometime in 2014.

As a political hostage in the Peoples Republic of Illinois, I am envious.

I am adding OK to my list of where to escape to.

And the river between Texas and Oklahoma is named the “Red River”.

Here in Texas we are the same as OK. Solid Red (certainly not Commie Red) just like our brothers to the North in OK.

Trivia note for those "not from around here", when people talk about "red dirt" or the Red River, which is red because of the red dirt... that's a reference to much of the soil in Oklahoma and northwestern Texas. Seems like it's more pronounced the further west one goes, starting at about Oklahoma City and west of I-35 north and south of there.

It's clay soil with iron oxide in it. Thus, the rust-colored red soil.

Don’t confuse it with Red Dirt Ready which is a monkier some genius with Homeland Security dreamed up. It was a commie slogan to justify reporting your neighbors. Something like “If it looks funny report it”. Hell everything looks funny here compared to DC.

Was stationed at Altus AFB for 6 years. Not the most metropolitan of areas, but the people were real. Great fishing as they stocked the Tom Steed Resevoir with hybrid stripers. Would have no problem living in OK.

The Air Force transferred me to Tinker AFB, Midwest City, OK in 1988. I really didn’t want to come here. My first impression of living in Oklahoma was entirely negative. Not sure why but it was. After about 6 months here both my wife and decided that this is where we were going to retire and raise our kids. Strong, conservative, American values. We have never regretted that decision.
